Cleanse?

I never ever thought I'd be considering this but I am. I just veel like I've been eating so much junk lately and I've developed a horrible sugar habit.

Cleansing has always seemed to me like unnecessary punishment but lately it seems like it might be the only way to make a fresh start.

Have any of you ever done a cleanse or have any advice/recommendations?

*edit: feel, not veel.  Not a vampire, I swear.*

Re: Cleanse?

  • I've thought about doing this one from Goop.com (Gwyneth Paltrow's site):

I like that it doesn't seem to be just a liquid diet.  Those scare me.  Especially the water/lemon juice/maple syrup/cayenne one.

  • I've heard good things about the Natalia Rose raw food detox diet: https://www.detoxtheworld.com/

You can have actual food; I think this is suposed to be a lifestyle change but I have several friends who have done it as cleanses.

I don't know if I have the discipline but I could use to detox from refined sugar and carbs for awhile. LMK what you decide on!

I'm going to check out that goop one too :)

  • My mom is doing a sort of "cleanse."  It's really to help her adjust to eating better long term.  For six weeks you cut out all processed sugar and flour.  So fruit is still ok, because it's natural sugar, and veggies, meat and dairy products are all ok.  She said she found some corn tortillas (that are kind of expensive) that have no sugar or flour added, and a couple other "alternatives" so that it doesn't feel like she eliminated all the good stuff. ;)

  • I just finished a 24-day 'challenge' using a program and supplements by a company called Advocare, and I LOVED it.  The first 10 days are a cleanse.  I've done other cleanses where you just take supplements or eat foods that make you have... loose bowels... but I really felt like this one was different.  It made a huge difference in my energy levels and how I feel in general.  Not to mention I lost 10 pounds and a bunch of inches as a result of all the improvements I made in my diet.  If you have any questions, let me know.  I really recommend it.

I think one of my good friends did that one.  She was dying on the first three days with no coffee and limited snacks, but after a few days, she felt really good and had more energy.

I have heard great things about this one as well and was looking into it with a friend at work yesterday even!

  • will have to check it out - how is it that something isn't on my radar at all until someone mentions it! :)
  • I have always had really REALLY good luck with the first 9 days of the Fat Smash Diet!!   Every time I have done it I have lost at least 9 lbs, along with all my sugar cravings.   I highly recommend it!

  • I am a bit afraid of cleanses too, but I was totally happy after going paleo for a 30 day challenge.  Basically it's no grains, no dairy.  Cutting that out the first few days stinks, but after that I felt great and lost the sugar cravings.  You can eat meat, nuts, fruits and veggies.
