I'm about 7 weeks with twins and the nurse just called to say I have a UTI. She prescribed 10 days of amoxicillin. I feel no symptoms--is this normal early in pregnancy? What risks does it have to the fetuses?
Yes, it's very normal to get UTIs during pregnancy. I had them three times, including one that landed me in the hospital, until they put me on daily antiobitics for the last 2 months of my pregnancy. The problem with UTIs is they can lead to kidney infections, which can cause premature labor.
I found out after my 8 week appt that I had one and I never knew and had never had them before. Nurse told me it was very common they just want to treat right away so no risk of infection to the babies
I had one as well and also didn't have any symptoms and had never had one before. The nurse told me that (in more professional, medical terms) that there are so many things moving around & pressure is on all your organs so bacteria is more likely to form in areas where it wouldn't if you weren't pregnant. I hope that makes sense. Good luck & congrats!
