if money was no object--newborn stash

I'm trying to make a decision about finishing up our newborn stash. I'm deciding between GroVia newborn AIO and prefolds/covers. With the resale value of  the AIO, the cost isn't _that_ different and my husband told me to go ahead and do whatever I'd like. I already have 12 newborn AIOs, but figure on needing at least 24 to start.

If cost wasn't a concern, would you go prefolds/covers or newborn AIOs to get through the first 2-3 months? TIA!!!

  • i would actually get fitteds - they are so soft squishy and cute, the snap down cord protector usually works very well - probably b4s mostly... sorry it doesnt really answer your question...

  • If money was no concern, I would get GM newborns like wazoo  :)

  • I would get a mix of newborn AIOs and newborn fitteds (the fancy ones like Goodmama) and covers if money was truly no object.  But realistically $29 for a newborn diaper is just ridiculous.

I do think prefolds are a good value but personally I would not want all prefolds because there is a bit of a learning curve with using them and it's nice to have something that's quick to change in the middle of the night or that you can leave with your DH/MIL/mom.

  • I really do love prefolds. I still use them for the majority of the time.  I'd choose those.

  • Definitely fitteds for NB-we had primarily prefolds and I love the convenience of just throwing them in the dryer

  • I agree with PP and would opt for fitteds with covers. Double elastic (from fitted and cover) could be double protection against leaky poop haha. I do like prefolds and covers and that's mostly what we'll be using, but I think a few NB fitteds will be helpful when they start sleeping more at night.

I've never used nb aios, so I don't know how much they leak etc. If money was no object I would get a mix of things.. prefolds, fitteds and aios!

  • Even if money was no object, we've had an easier time with our fitteds and prefolds than with the AIOs I bought because of leaking issues (repelling and sizing I guess).

We have six KL0s and I wish I had bought more.  I love the GMD prefolds and Thirsties covers.

$29 for a nb really isn't that ridiculous when they can wear them for 4-5 months. Grier is still wearing her nb goodmamas and she's almost 5 months old. If money truly wasn't an issue my entire nb stash would be goodmamas and muttaquins.

  • I had all sorts of diapers in my newborn stash and aios were the ones I reached for last.  Fitteds were first, especially in the first few weeks and prefolds were second.

If money were no object, I would do 1/2 fitteds and 1/2 prefolds.  Some of the fitteds I liked during newborn stage were BG bamboo, Nanipoos, Sbish, Mutts, B4 newborn and GM newborn.

  • I would definitely do primarily fitteds, and probably a lot of goodmamas. Fitteds are amazing at holding in newborn poo (prefolds, like a PP mentioned, have a learning curve and occasional leaks happen) and I love the idea of pairing them with wool for airflow. I would probably have a few AIOs for out of the house because fitteds and covers get bulky under clothes, but I love me some fitted diapers.

  • We are an all AIO family for convienience sake. Ive never tried fitteds or wool and i refuse to pay $29+ for a diaper to poop in - and also my husband would kill me. Im still waiting on someone to explain why a goodmama is so awesome. Why buy a cute printed fitted diaper if you have to cover it up with wool or a cover? You will definitely want more than 12. I did it on 15 BG XS AIO's last time because we were in a pinch and had only bought OS before our son was born. OS are fine if you have an 8-9lbr. Not with a 5lbr. you will want at least 24 and I would say 36 is better. that gives you almost 3 days of newborn wear before you HAVE to wash and really if you do every two, then it leaves a day to do the actual washing, line drying, etc etc. I highly recommend the BG AIO's - the sized type. Cottonbabies has them on seconds right now if you want to try some. My entire newborn stash is made out of them and we very rarely ever had leaks or poosplosions.

  • For newborn I did prefolds and kl0 with thirsties covers. If I could do it again I would use the prefolds with some RaR lil joyes, doodle dnky AI2s and a few GM newborns thrown in.

  • I'd go for bamboo or hemp prefolds (like Megaroos on HC), custom covers and cute woolies
