1st Trimester

Anyone have SCH info?

I have a subchorionic hemorrhage...at 8 weeks it was 4 CM and I just found out yesterday its down to 2.3 CM at 9 weeks! The doctor seemed really upbeat because the clot had gotten smaller in this quick amount of time

My question is...once this clot starts shrinking does it go away? Is there a chance this clot can grow back again?

Has anyone had this?? While I am a little happier that the clot is getting smaller, I am still nervous! I have had no bleeding at all and if it wasn't for a scan I never would have known I had this.

Thanks for listening!

Re: Anyone have SCH info?

  • I have one, but have actually had bleeding related to it.  My understanding is that once it gets absorbed you should be good.  At that point the placenta can make full attachment to the uterus.

I just went in for an us today and I am happy to say mine was gone. :)

    Good luck!

  • I had one with DS, and I had lots of bleeding. Unlike yours, mine never got smaller, and never went away. My Dr. wasn't to concerned since it measured at 3.8 cm.

  • I had a major SCH with DD-- it was very, very large and very scary to say the least.  To answer your question, once it starts shrinking then the idea is that it will get smaller and smaller until it just disappears or is absorbed by your body.  You can make it worse by lifting too much weight, doing too much physically, etc. and set yourself back.  Mine started so small they didn't even detect it the first time, then I ran 8 miles and lifted a 40 lb. suitcase and bam, I was in trouble and in the ER.  I had no idea I had it obviously, but it landed me on bedrest for 10 weeks.  Most heal by week 20.  Drink a ton of water and my doc suggested taking a little extra vit. C as it helps your body heal.  You may have some gushes, which are scary and of course upsetting, but it is normal with a SCH. Thankfully it rarely if ever affects the baby.  DD was always happy as a clam in every ultrasound, she was totally unaffected and born happy and healthy full terms at over 8 lbs.!  Rest, rest, rest and good luck!

  • Thanks for the responses.....this is certainly scary....did all of you have some bleeding with this? Should I expect a gushing of blood? Or you think since its shrinking that I wont bleed?
  • I had a very large SCH with DD#2 - at 11weeks I had a major gush; ER visit and that was when it was detected. She was always fine on every u/s growing and thriving. I had moderate bleeding from 11-20weeks with some big gushes where I would soak through my clothes - scary! I was on strict bedrest from weeks 11-20 (and I had a 12-15mo old DD at the time). I had U/S every week to measure the SCH - mine never got smaller and the peri actually told me he had only ever seen 1 larger (nice right?) I went off of bedrest after my 20week u/s and had no more bleeding from that point on. My SCH never re-absorbed but they termed it "stabilized" at 20weeks. I remember intrauterine growth restriction being a concern due to how large my SCH was but DD was born full term at 40weeks at 9lbs 2oz! She is now 2.5yrs old and the picture of health. It was a roller coaster pregnancy but my case was not the norm as far as SCHs - most reabsorb completely by 20weeks. Best of luck!
  • I have had spotting since about 6 weeks, which is when they diagnosed the SCH.  I got a little bigger at first, and I pretty much spotted daily.  The spotting was always brown and small in volume....panty liners where sufficient in preventing undie staining.

I had a scare this past week with a red bleeding event.  Again it was small.

My doctor says whenever my symptoms chain to let them know.  i think usually get an ultrasound and they check on the baby's status and so far, all has been fine.

I think it vaires person to person.  But if you do notice bleeding try not to panic and just call your doctors office.  My office even has a call line after hours.  Which came in useful for a 10 pm call where I was able to be reassured by an on call OB.

As others said - drink lots of OJ.  Try to relax, with your feet up when possible.

    Good luck.
