How long will the BG XS last?

So I bought a bunch of these yesterday since it seemed like a pretty sweet deal. I think the  packaging says 6-12lbs but I have no clue how many weeks that typically is. Do they really last all the way up to OS? Do you think I can transition from the XS to OS or do I need something in between?

Sorry if this has been asked before, you ladies are just so helpful!

Re: How long will the BG XS last?

  • We went from XSs to OS. It seemed like such a big size difference but it worked for DS. He wore his XSs for a month and a half.

  • You should be able to.  I bought a few for a future baby and I just hope I don't get another 9 pounder.  Course she was down to 8 pounds 2 ounces when she came home.  She started fitting in OS at 10-11 pounds at 6 weeks.  I don't have personal experience, but I would assume they will be fine.

  • I think it really depends on your baby. I know that DS was out of them at 4 weeks - and that was pushing it. He was born at 7 lbs 11 oz but I can't remember what he weighed at 4 weeks when he outgrew them. I was bummed they didnt last longer b/c I really liked them. He is now 12+ lbs and I still not loving the fit of the OS. The large insert is too bulky and causing leaks and the infant insert isnt enough. For now we are in BG smalls and prefolds with covers until I like the fit of the OS better.

Do you have sized pf's? See if your trifolded pf is smaller than the OS insert. Pf's are super absorbent and work great as inserts. Some people (like myself) don't use the MF inserts at all, I don't like how it's prone to compression leaks and don't want to deal with the funk problems that can be common with MF. Now that I've gotten used to using hemp or my orange edge pf's I get the heeby geebies when I touch MF lol...

  • They fit DD for about a month, but she was only about 10 pounds at this point.  We used smalls until OS diapers fit her.
Married to my best friend 6/5/10
    BFP #1 9/7/10, EDD 5/14/11, Violet born 5/27/11.
    BFP #2 4/9/12, EDD 12/16/12, M/C Rory 4/24/12.
    BFP #3 10/6/12, EDD 6/16/12., Matilda born 6/17/13.
  • Hmm, so it sounds like I should buy some smalls just incase. Should I get a full set of smalls just incase? (by full set i mean 24-36?)

    Right now I have

    4 BG smalls
2 Muttaquin NB (which look like they would fit to 15lbs, so maybe longer than the BG XS, but I am not really sure)
    1 Thirsties Duo Fab Fitted
    1 Fuzzibunz size 1

I assume that 8 (maybe 6) diapers aren't enough to make it through the middle stage if there is one...

  • Zoe's still in them at 6 weeks and she is just shy of 10 pounds - They're getting close to not working though.
  • We are still going strong in them at 2 months, but LO is only 8lbs 15oz.  She is 22 1/2 inches long and seems to be outgrowing them rise wise.  She fits well into the smalls, but the XSs still fit.

She thoroughly soaks the XSs when she pees now, but hasn't leaked out of them, yet.
