New job interview...

I started applying for a new job before my BFP.  Well, now I got a call from someone who saw my resume on career builder and they want to set up an interview.  I know that I have no legal responsiblity to tell them my situation, but I feel like I need to protect myself and see how they will handle the situation since I will not qualify for FMLA.  I have every intention of returning to work full time, but I also will need to take my full 12 week leave since DS will only be 14 months (yikes!).

What do you think?  Tell them and risk not being hired, or take the job and risk not having work to go back to?

ETA: I need to give my current employer 4 weeks notice per my contract, so I will definitely be showing by the time I start the new job!  I will not be able to hide this pregnancy much longer from either employer.

Re: New job interview...

  • Sounds like a tricky situation, but I personally would wait until after the hire. After they see you are a good worker, they will be more likely to let you come back full time after the baby.

  • I would tell them after they offer you the job.  That way they can't discriminate against you during the hiring process, but you can make sure that you'll be able to take ML before you accept the job.

  • I agree this is a rough situation. Do you have to leave your current job? I would wait until further in the process. Even though they can discriminate against you because you are preggers. If it is a great job feel out the highering process and see what feels right to you.
