Nutramigen Moms- transition help?

I am not a big poster or lurker but was hoping  for some input from any moms who are on lactose free formula?

My son will be 10 months tomorrow.  Diagnosed with reflux at 5wks is on Nutramigen formula, weaned off zantac at 8 months with no problem.  ( tested negative for milk protein allergy at that time, was given formula for colic)

At his 9 month visit Ped suggested starting to introduce yogurt, etc.    Tried some yogurt... he was quite gassy and fussy, then was constipated, so I stopped with dairy.   His Gastroenterologist suggested waiting for until a year old before trying again.

So to any Moms out there, did you have a problem introducing milk/ milk products and how long did you wait to do so?

Also he is starting solids and obviously cheese is not an option but what about wheat products that are made with milk?  Is this going to be a problem also?

Thanks Ladies!

  • I would definitely follow your GI docs suggestion and wait until your LO is one to trial again.  My son was diagnosised with MSPI (actually he also has problems with eggs and tomatoes in addition to milk/soy) at 7 wks and we've being avoiding it ever since.  I'm BFing him on an elimination diet and  I do not feed him any dairy/soy/egg/tomato products.   When you do start trialing I would check with your GI doc or ped to see what they suggest.  I plan to start slow with introducing cooked milk first, i.e. bread made with milk, that kind of thing. That is my own personal preference.  If you're interested here is a link with some info on ways to trial milk https://bit.ly/kZgzPk

    HTH and good luck!!!
