Found out today that my dad has colon cancer. So now we start the wait of finding out what stage it is and what the course of treatment will be. The next few days will be long ones. At least after the CT scans you know what you're dealing with - Stage I, Stage III, whatever. I'm the kind of person who does better when I am armed with information and know what's going on. I can't stand being in the dark and patience is not my long suit.
My father is not a healthy man and has a whole laundry list of risk factors. He also puts off going to the doctor until things are unbearable so that makes me scared that things might be very progressed. I am hoping I am wrong though.
We'll take all the thoughts and prayers we can get, please.

I'm so sorry to hear this.
Oh my god, how awful and terrifying. I hope the news is as positive as possible, and that the treatment is successful.
I really want to give you a hug right now.

Thank you everyone for your kind words and positive thoughts. Tomorrow he is scheduled for an MRI and chest x-ray to determine how progressed it is. Monday is the CT scan. They removed several polyps today but had to leave a large mass in there. That will be removed in surgery Tuesday. Then we'll know how bad things are and what the treatment course will be.
Doodlebug, yes, he is in town. MRI and CT scan at Mercy Anderson. Surgery will be at University.
Please, please keep my dad in your thoughts and prayers. All the good thoughts ar very appreciated. You're a great bunch of women.

My prayers are with you. I hope everything turns out okay.
I will keep you and your family in my prayers. If it helps my husbands aunt was diagnosed at the beginning of December with colon cancer, she only went to the hospital b/c she hadn't gone bathroom in a week and was having stomach pains. When they found the tumor they gave her 3 weeks and then said maybe 5 weeks. We are now in July and she is doing great. She is not a canidate for surgery but she has been having chemo every other Friday and she went from a nursing home (b/c she lived on her own and is very frail) to now living in an assisted living place. She has her good days and bad days but if you have the will to live I think that helps everything!
