Metformin - nausea & vomiting?

I've been on Met for almost a year but my new RE just doubled my dosage.  I've been sick the last 2 mornings which is no surprise but I've been so nauseas and actually threw up 3 times this morning.  Is this normal?  Has this happened to you?

 


After more than 2 years of fertility treatments, FET did the trick!
IVF March 2012 - BFP! - Severe OHSS = 8 days in the hospital in kidney failure
No heartbeat at 10w6d
FET August 27,2012 = BFP!

    Happened to me when I got bumped up to 1500 mg a day.I hate that drug with a passion. I lost 10 pounds in a month from being sick all the time no matter what I ate. Hang in there!

    Married: 5/09 ~ TTC Since: 10/10 ~ PCOS ~ Progesterone from 10/10 - 2/11 ~ HSG on 3/18 - Clear ~ Started Metformin 1000mg & Clomid 50mg 2/11 ~ Metformin upped to 1500mg 4/6 ~ 6/7 Now going to SG and put on Clomid, Ovidrel, Gonal F, Prometrium, Estrace ~ IUI #1 7/2 = BFP!!!!!! March 6th our little man was born. 

    6/17/13 - Ovidrel, Follistim, Prometrium ~ IUI #1 7/2 = BFP! March 17th our St. Pattys day baby arrived

    10/29/17 - Started process for IVF, got pregnant & miscarried a 2nd time since summer. 2/22 started stims - Menopur, Gonal F, Cetrotide - retrieval 3/6 - , PIO, estrace 3xday - FET 4/18 = Beta 1: 616; Beta 2: 1342 = BFP

    Sorry it happened to you too but it makes me feel a little better.  I did 1500 mg for a week and did fine but I just bumped it to 2000 and its kicking my arse.  Sadly, I'm looking forward to the weightloss.  Maybe this is the kickstart I need to get over this weightloss plateau.  I am not enjoying the nausea and hot flashes though.

     Well I hope it doesn't last long. Some of these drugs are so crummy you end up not leaving your house!

    It's so funny how everyone reacts differently. On 1000mg I just had major issues for two weeks then it calmed down until it got upped again. And then there is trying to have a glass of wine on Metformin. I learned there is no one drink on metform unless I wanted to vomit all night long!

     I'm jealous I was never able to enjoy a drink on it. I tried numerous times and suffered dearly all night long for trying it. Do you take your pills twice a day?

    I've been at 2000mg for over a year now.  I didn't vomit but had diarhea all the time in the first two months (I lost 20 lbs in the first eight months of being on it but have since gained about 10 back).  It gets easier with time. 

    TTC since July 2009. Dx MFI & LPD. 
    IUI#1&2&3 (2011 & 2012) BFN
    IUI#4 1/23/13 on 75iu x9 Follistim = BFP then chem preg m/c (Feb 2013)
    IUI#5 BFN (April 2013)
    IVF w/ICSI Oct. 2, 2012 - 13R, 11M, 7F, 1 frozen blast 4BB grade - - - FET Nov 15, 2013
    BFP! Beta 1:104 @ 10dp6dt, Beta 2:178 @ 12dp6dt,  beta 3:366 @ 14dp6dt
    Saw heartbeat twice before missed M/C at 8w3d on 12/27/13, missing my little angel boy
    JUNE 2014 IVF#2;  5R, 2M, 1F Three day transfer 6/7.  Beta 6/18 - BFN

    Yes, I take it with morning and night but always with a meal.  I also am on a low carb diet which I think helps.  Obviously, I haven't had any margaritas since I changed my diet and I rarely drink wine now.  I usually stick to Michelob Ultra because its really low carb.  It has half the carbs of a bud light.  I sound like such a lush!  I don't drink during the 2ww but its a rare occurance that I O so I guess I have to entertain myself somehow.

    Happened with me as well even on a low dosage.  I was sooo sick, throwing up all the time.  Still couldn't handle it after the dosage was lowered.  Eventually stopped taking it.  Hate that stuff

    I got sick like that when mine was doubled too (I went from 500mg to 1000mg).. I switched to the ER (extended release) version and take both pills 30 minutes after dinner and I have no reaction to it now.

    I'm only at 1500mg right now, but I was really sick (nausea, vomitting, diarrhea) for a couple weeks when they upped my dosage. I take one 750mg pill in the morning and one at night and I make sure those things are always 12 hours apart. The twelve hour difference really helped me. Hope you feel better soon.

    I started at 500 mg which made me just a wee bit nauseous, and I doubled to 1000 mg two weeks ago.  I take it with dinner, but I am always too sick to eat breakfast.  Tonight I go up to 1500 mg, so I am a little scared....

     

    I never threw up though.  I hope you feel better!

    After 4 miscarriages, Clomid and TI brought us our beautiful baby girl on 8/14/13!

    I am on 1500 MG a day. I take with dinner or right after ( depending how late dinner is) I was warned by my OB so I started with 500 a day then upped to 1000 every other and so forth till I was on all of it. About a 5 week process. I don't have many problems. I am supposed to be on the Sugar busters diet but I have been bad lately. I definitely have diarrhea a lot but I can take that with nothing else. And if I eat something I'm not supposed to I definitely feel it.

    Yes. My dr had to switch me to the extended release. That was a little easier on my stomach.

    I'm on a lower dosage than you are, but I find that it helps if I take it right before bed, so I kinda sleep through the nausea.
