Any exercise to help swelling?

My feet look terrible and it's sread to my calves too.  I'm trying to drink tons of water and feel like I'm floating.  I also know I need to cut down on any salt and have been keeping my feet up.  I still wake up swollen.  I haven't been doing any exercise lately as I've been sick for the last 2 weeks.  Will walking help or just make it worse?  Help!

Re: Any exercise to help swelling?

  • I don't know any exercises to reduce swelling but keep drinking water and keep your legs elevated as much as possible.?

  • I think walking will help - my OB told me to stay as active as possible since it helps keep all your systems moving along.  And of course keep pounding the water!
  • We do legs up the wall in my yoga class.  You do lay on your back but only for 10 - 15 minutes.  Basically - you're on your back on a mat with pillow under lower back or mid-back if you need it - scooch your butt as close to the wall as feels comfortable - and put your legs straight up the wall.  It feels great.  I'd say try that twice a day and see if it helps.
    Wheee!

  • i am going to get compression stockings. i have been getting dizzy and definitely retaining water and doctor said it could help. it helps circulation....
  • walking should definitely help. ?and with all the nice weather we've been having, it's a great excuse to get outdoors! ?
  • Walking is good. Elevating legs - yes, if you can't be on your back, you can do one leg at a time on your side (i.e. on the top of the couch).

Also, try to eat more protein if possible.  "Dr. Brewer's diet" with 80-100 grams of protein (doesn't have to be meat).  There's suggestions in the Dr. Bradley book Husband-Coached Childbirth, but probably on-line as well.  My midwife agrees that it helps.

  • Walkng and  swimming will help
