Please help me...need serious medical advice

We have been up with Noah since 1:30 am.  He has had 11 dirty diapers in that time and has thrown up twice.  He he drinks anything, within 5 minutes he has a dirty diaper.  He has pooped through his sheets as well as ours.  I don't know what to do/give him b/c everything makes him poop.  I am so worried he is going to get dehydrated.  He has just been holding his belly (off and on), rolling around, and saying, "ouchy".

I took him to the pedi on Thursday b/c he has been having diarrhea, but nothing like this.  They said it just had to run it's course.  Since this is pretty severe, is there anything they can give him/do for him to help?  He won't take any tylenol either.  I think he is now afraid to eat or drink anything.  :(

  • Uggg...I'm sorry to hear. ?I think the only thing they could do is fluids if he is dehydrated. ?It's worth a shot though

  • have you called your pedi yet?  if not, i'd call asap.

  • They don't open for another hour.  I have been debating the ER, but my mom and sis talked me out of that and that I should wait it out and talk to our pedi.
  • oh, man.  I am SO sorry you're going through this.  And while this may not be helpful at all, I would just call your dr. and get the person on call to call you back.  I had something like that myself a couple of weeks ago and it was over in a day (I ate nothing and drank almost nothing in that day).  I hope for your sake (and his) that it's quick.  But I would just call.  Now.  GOOD LUCK!

I would call the on-call line.  No sense waiting an extra, miserable hour when someone's on call for a reason.
  • Ok, he is eating a tortilla now.  He asked for "eats" and I didn't know what else to give him.  All of our bread has extra fiber in it, so I assumed that would not be good.  Hopefully this stays down.
  • Is he okay?  Have you talked to the pedi yet?

    Poor N!

Do you have any crackers?  Those might be ok too.
  • He is acting ok for now.  Who knows though, this kid is a total trooper when he is sick.  We usually don't know he is even sick unless he has a fever or a visable symptom.

I haven't been able to get in touch with anyone yet.

  • Try anything that is part of the BRAT diet, bananas, rice, applesauce and toast...that is what we are told to do when DD has an upset tummy

  • I was going to say the brat diet as well.

Maybe some cheese to help 'stop' him up.

  • BRAT diet, and push fluids. If he's going that much, he needs something with electrolytes to replenish what's spilling out of his body. If you can get him to drink pedialyte or gatorade, that would be awesome.
  • oh no!

g would never drink pedialyte or gatorade, but she would eat the pedialyte push pops frozen. they sell them in the same section as pedialyte at the drug store

    hope he feels better soon!

  • poor thing!! i agree to call the pedi, and i dont think on-call is a bad idea either. how's he doing with that tortilla? i would cautiously push fluids. fwiw, i remember being really freaked out about dehydration with DD one time but then my pedi told me that although you need to watch for it and try to give fluids, basically said that i was worrying way too much and it wouldnt be a short-term problem.
  • He ate about 3/4 of it and got some liquids down.  We are going to the pedi in less than 1 hour.  Poor guy is exhausted.  :(
  • Oh no! Poor little guy. I hope he feels better soon. Its so tough when our babies are hurting.
  • Let us know how he's doing.  Definitely brat diet - add saltines, oyster crackers, that type of thing too.  If he won't drink anything, try a little sprite/7up.  Applesauce / mashed banana and those crackers might stay down.

I hate stomach bugs, I hope it clears his system quickly.

  • I'm late to this but hope he feels better fast. ?Definitely do brat diet.
  • Does he have a fever?  If so he needs tylenol.  DD had stomach flu last weekend, very similar.  I took her to urgent care and they gave her a tylonol suppository in her rear because she would puke up the oral.  They also gave her 3 popsicles.  Once the fever came down she seemed better.  The biggest thing to look for is dehydration.  If you dont think he is dehydrated just keep trying fluids even if he poops afterwards.  popsicals, water juice pedialyte whatever he will drink.  My dr even said 7-up ginger ale whatever she would take.  It was a 24 hr thing for her.  She also had an ear infection too so she did need antibiotics though so if you suspect def. take him in.  Sorry, I know it sucks to have a pukey poopy child!
  • I would call the pedi and give him pedialyte.
  • Try the BRAT diet, if that still doesn't help, then you may just need to stick to clear liquids- jello, broth, juice, water, pedialyte-then the fluids and nutrients can be absorbed without upseting his GI track.  If he is vomiting and not able to keep anything down, try giving him a teaspoon of clear liquid every 15 min.  It is hard and you feel so bad because they are thirsty and hungry, but if they guzzle it can cause them to vomit again.  Good luck!  I hope he feels better soon!  Also dd would only drink pedialyte if I froze it a little and made it into a slushy.
