St. John Moross.. spill it ladies! I need the good, bad and everything in between

Hi Ladies,

If you have delivered at St. John Moross, please, please post on here your experience. I live in St. Clair County, so it would be about a 45 minute drive for me. Any opinions on my drive would be more than welcomed. This will be my first pregnancy. The only other hospital choices are River District (5min) very very small or Port Huron (20 min), but I cannot get an appt. with a good dr. in PH until August 8th and I am already going on 12 weeks and have not even had a pelvic yet. Help! I need any advice I can get.

I delivered both of my children there and both times had a wonderful experience.   I had a private labor/delivery room, so I was able to stay in the same room for the whole process from start to finish.  The rooms are spacious, you have a flat couch that your spouse/significant other can sleep on if they choose to stay.  You get a rocker w/glider in the room.  A bathroom with a tub/shower. The baby can stay with you in the room but the nursery is always available to you if you need a break.  It also has a NICU at that location so if anything were to go wrong the baby could be taken care of right away.

I delivered there and also had a good experience. The only downer was that it was too full for me to stay in the huge L&D suites so I had to move to a smaller room. It was still private thankfully, but w/ twins we were cramped. Other than that I loved my doctor and the nurses were really helpful. The lactation counselors were nice and helpful too. I had heard horror stories about beligerent lactation counselors elsewhere but the ones I had were great. I had preemies that wouldn't even bottle feed correctly, much less BF so this was a big deal for me. My one huge complaint about StJ's is that they misbilled my ins co for 1 charge and I've literally been fighting it for 10months. But the care I received was great and I will go back for future kids.

If you need access to a NICU or a MFM, and hopefully you won't, St J's is great.

Oh and be prepared for students and residents to watch/participate in your birth. Maybe you won't have that, but I had almost 20 ppl in my L&D suite during my birth. Granted that was a twin birth and the majority were not in training, but I know other moms who had medical students in their rooms as well.

I love it there! DS ended up in NICU and I was so happy I chose there because he may have been transferred if I was somewhere else. Rooms are great. Nurses are great. Food is also ok. LOL. I really am at a loss as to what else to say. I would definately suggest it. We did the tour before hand and the birthing class there. Honestly I almost learned everything at the tour, it was very informative. They have on site lactation conusulants to help with nursing which I took advantage of. Good luck.

I delivered at St Johns Moross and have nothing but great things to say about them. I was treated great and had awesome nurses. Dr's were always in and out of the room checking on me before and after delivery. I had a complication after my c-section and it was taken care of within a matter of mintues. Luckily, I got to stay in the large birthing suite room, which is very spacious. The downside is if you get moved to a private room, they are on the rather small side. FWIW I kept going back and forth between St J's and Beaumont Grosse Pointe. I mainly chose St J's due to their NICU and excellent special care nursery. I was basically told that if something went wrong with my daughter that they would transport her to St J's and I would be left alone at Beaumont. That was my deciding factor on St J's and I have no regrets. I will deliver there again if we have another kid.

This is where I will have mine and I have been told my numerous people including many doctors that this is the best place to have a baby, especially if something were to go wrong. My friend actually works in L&D so I am completely comfortable going here.

I delivered there, and I loved the room, tub, staff--they were VERY breastfeeding friendly! Never gave DD a pacifier, bottle, I was helped with a latch issue by their LC, too. The students suck. Do not let them examine you! I was sent home in labor because a student claimed I had un-dilated! I simply waited three hours for shift change, got a real doctor to examine me, and was admitted immediately.

Thank you for all of the info. I think I am going to move forward and do a tour of the facility, but from all of your recommendations, I think St. Johns Moros will be a good choice for us.  : )
