Potty Training

Straight to underwear- PT help!!

I've heard so many people say just put him in underwear and ask him throughout the day if he has to go potty.

Well, his automatic response is, "nope" every.single.time, even when he ends up having an accident one minute later.

He had accidents all day yesterday, except at bedtime he came to his door gate yelled for me and told me he had to go potty, which he did!

He woke up dry today, yelled for us, but peed at the door by his gate waiting for us.

Had accidents all day today, except at Walmart he told me he had to go (he was dry and wearing a pull-up) but peed on the way to the bathroom.

He just can't hold it, and even if his blatter is full he says he doesn't have to go.

Any advice?  Is he just not ready?  I don't want to push him too hard.

  • in my experience, I think it's best to say "make sure to tell mommy when you have to go potty" instead of asking them "do you have to go?". This gives them the control.  Then it's best not only to listen to verbal ques, but watch their body language. My son grabs himself when he has to go, so I rush him to the bathroom when I see him do that.

I am in the process of PT'ing my son now, but also followed this advice when I PT'd DD. So it may not work, but that's my advice.
