Hello - my DS has some sensitivities to foods I eat (he's BF). We know he reacts to dairy, soy, rice, and something else we haven't pinned down yet. His reaction usually manifests as lots of mucus in his diapers, and occasionally visible blood. It's not a bad reaction (I had him tested in part because I had food allergies as an infant), but there's a noticeable difference when I avoid those foods.
My question is whether, if your child had a reaction to dairy, you also saw a reaction to beef. I tried feeding him ground beef yesterday, and today he had a gross, mucusy diaper. I thought that part of the reason he reacted to cow dairy was because the proteins were similar to those in my milk and were therefore more likely to be transmitted intact to him, and that beef would be OK (he doesn't react when I eat beef).
Thanks - I'm feeling a little frustrated, since I thought we'd both been eating acceptable foods lately, and this shows that we haven't been.
Re: Milk protein sensitivity - problems with beef?
I'm a vegetarian so i can't tell you during the BFing time.. but when i introduced meat to him, he couldn't tolerate any meat.. not sure if it's related to his dairy/egg allergy or if he just didn't want it. He's eating chicken now and i haven't tried beef (probably wont any time soon).
I know that there is a shared protein between the cow and her milk and chicken and the egg.. but it's very small and most people can eat one and not the other but i have heard stories that people are also allergic to the animal.
Has your LO been tested for allergies? Since he's over 6 months old, they may want to test him for the top 8.
