Trying to Get Pregnant

Faint OPK control line...

I am using Answer brand cheap OPK's.  I have been testing multiple times a day because for about a day and a half the test line was as dark but not darker than the control.  I thought I might try and see if I could catch it when it was darker so I could be 100% sure.  Then today I tested and the control line was much lighter than it has been.  I also saw a test line and it was lighter than the control so I am pretty sure the dark lines yesterday were my positives.  I dipped a second strip in case the first was defective and it was exactly the same.  I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced their control lines getting lighter and if they knew why.  My only guess would be diluted pee.  Any thoughts?

  • You can only compare the test line to the control line on the same OPK. The darkness of the control lines can vary from test to test.

Yeah, what I meant was that I dipped another stick and the control line was as light as it was on the first.

  • Could be diluted urine, Could also be that you were gearing up to O and didn't, or you could have O'd already and just missed your "darker than the control" postive result. The only way to confirm Ovulation is with a temp shift. OPK's just tell you when your body is working it's way towards Ovulation.

If your test line was AS dark as the control, I believe that counts as positive. I think the rule is AS dark OR darker.

Sorry - I misunderstood your question!
