I'm going to look at a double jogger this morning--the model has a fixed front wheel (Bob Sport Utility). Is this going to be a major PITA (as opposed to having a swivel front wheel with the option of being fixed in place)? Any thoughts?
Dear Bump: You suck.
Re: fixed front wheel on jogging stroller?
I went against the fixed front wheel because I was going to use the stroller for something other than just running. It's not my only stroller but it's the "nice" one. I have to say even with running on the trail I'm glad I have the swivel wheel because that would be a pain IMO to turn.
*I only have the single.
Do you just want it for jogging?
We only have one double stroller (BOB) so we use it for more than just jogging. For family walks on the trails, for going to the park down the street, going to the pool down the street, or when we're at a park/zoo/event that is all/most day, so the kids have a napping place and for when they get tired, because inevitably if one is riding the other wants too.
ETA: I guess I never really answered your question, sorry! What I meant was that in all the other ways we use our double we wouldn't want the fixed wheel version.
Ditto, except we walk more than jog. (oh, and ours is just a single, it's a Baby Jogger) I had wanted a swivel front wheel, knowing that we are not really joggers, but since Mr Cheapy McCheapypants found this one in great shape at a garage sale, that's what we got. I don't mind not having the swivel wheel for walks/jogs, and I even took DS to ACL in it last year and it was fine. My biggest issue with it is that it's so dang huge (front to back), and it seems to me that the ones w/swivel wheels are more compact front-to-back. If we decide to get a double, I'm going to insist on the swivel mainly because of the size-issue.

The Blog
Our jogging stroller only gets used for off road walks and jogging, so take this FWIW. We have a fixed front wheel on ours and I love it. I tried jogging with a friends swivel wheel stroller and couldn't run straight to save my life. I can push ours with one hand easily and not worry about swerving into oncoming traffic. So IMO, if you're going to do a lot of running/jogging with it, I'd suggest doing a fixed wheel or a wheel that can be locked into a fixed position.
Honestly, I don't find it that much of a PITA to turn, but I'm used to it also.
ditto! two kiddos + double BOB = heavy!
