I hope you ladies wont mind answering a few newbie question every once and a while.....speaking of which is it possible to become allergic to milk when pregnant? I have tried drinking milk two different days and both times I have been completely sick the rest of the day. I love milk, and I hate that I can't drink it now...

  • Congrats on your pregnancy.  The ladies on this board can be very helpful. My guess would be that you are not allergic to milk.  I know many women that can't tolerate certain food/drink during pregnancy, especially in the beginning.  Hopefully by the end of your first trimester you will be able to enjoy a glass of milk again.

  • Congratulations on your pregnancy!  Hope you have a great appointment next week.  I had a few food intolerances during my pregnancy, raw tomatoes was one of them.  I could eat tomato sauce, soup, etc., but salsa was a no go.  Perhaps wait until your first trimester is over and give milk another try?  Congrats again!

  • Congratulations and welcome to the board!

I don't know if pregnancy actually causes allergies, but I was the same way with eggs. Just the smell of them had me running to the bathroom.

  • Congrats & Welcome!

Ditto what everyone else has said. More than likely you haven't developed an allergy, just are experiencing a food aversion. Early in my pregnancy I actually had an aversion to water. Even a sip of water would make me sick. Ick!

Luckly most food aversions only last for a few weeks, as your body / hormones adjust from one stage of pregnancy to the next. So hang in there!

Happy & Healthy 9 months to you!

  • Congratulations! I could not drink milk or eat ice cream during my entire pregnancy, it always made me sick. Not long after DD was born I was loving it once again. Hopefully you will be able to drink it again very soon! Wishing you a H & H 9 months!

  • Congratulations and welcome!  Like the pp's all said, pregnancy will do wacky things to your body, so I doubt it's an allergy.  When I was pregnant, I couldn't tolerate most milk products except cheese and ice cream.  Just the thought of yogurt about sent me over the edge and I used to eat it all the time before getting pregnant. You may find other foods make you sick that you used to love as well.  Weird, but after you deliver hopefully things will return to normal.   H&H 9 months!
  • Congrats and welcome.  The ladies here are awesome and very helpful!

  • Congrats! I had an awful time with milk, especially during my second trimester. You can take a calcium supplement instead.
