When did you start a bedtime for your baby?

I can't remember when we started putting DS#1 down at a regular time, besides when we went to bed.  Now he goes to bed by 7:30.  At what age did you start putting your baby down before you went to bed?  DS#2 sleeps in the evenings sometimes, but I worry we are keeping him awake longer than he needs/wants to be.  I haven't moved him in to the crib yet, but plan to soon.  Just thinking we should probably start a whole bedtime routine, with a much earlier bedtime than we are currently doing (which is essentially when we go to bed at 11ish).

  • Right around 3 months with both of them. Sleep seemed to fall into a better rythym at that point.

  • I am not much of a night owl, and it was hard since M is up at 7. I pretty much always put him down when we went to bed, but that was around 9:30.  Around 3 months we started the earlier bedtime, he now goes down 7-7:30.

  • It was around 3-4 months that a bedtime became routine.  E sort of set it herself after dropping her evening nap, and goes to bed now between 8-8:30.

  • We started at 2 months, but she had gotten herself into that routine and was/is sleeping from 7 to 7 or 8. (unless I get her up at 6 on the weekdays)  We bathe, eat, cuddle and read then she goes down. On nights we don't bathe we just eat, cuddle and read.  It works well for us.

  • We started A&E at around 2 months. They were super scheduled already and great sleepers so it was easy.

With the new baby I want to start working on it in a few weeks, but know it'll probably take awhile since she is BF'ing on demand and not as good of a sleeper yet.

  • Right around the 3 - 4 month mark both my kids seemed to get more routined.  I think that's about when it's developmentally appropriate and also when I went back to work and *I* had to be more routined.
  • It was somewhere around 2 months.  They basically signaled that they were dropping the 9pm bottle and it went from there.  Then we started a more definite bedtime routine like bath, book, bottle, bed around three to four months.  but by then their bed time was well developed.
