Re: ripping the velcro off

  • It's different for every baby. Mine started at 10 months. Now she tries to rip off the velcro through her clothes. However, we will be using velcro for daycare, so it is a necessity for us.

  • DS went through a phase 2 weeks ago when any diaper that was Aplix he would play with and pull off. But it's slowed down/pretty much stopped now, and we're still using Aplix.

  • Mine could do this around 8-9 months, but she usually leaves her diaper alone (especially if she's wearing shorts or pants.)

  • Thankfully DS hasn't noticed the velcro yet, and I hope to keep it that way. :-)  He's9 months.

  • It depends a lot on the baby. DS has gone through phases of it since maybe 13 months old or thereabouts, but the phases never last more than a day or two. DD was able to do it from the start (we started CD'ing at 15 months with her).

It's also worth pointing out, though, that both kids were able to remove snapping diapers pretty soon after they learned to remove velcro diapers. So the whole diaper-removal thing really doesn't factor into the velcro vs. snaps decision for me.

  • Thanks for this post!  I've been wavering between the two as well (baby's not here yet).  I have also heard that the velcro wears out way quicker.
