Today is my due date, I am Team Green and finally giving up on Harper after the Beckhams. I knew it was trendy before, but now it is going to be way too trendy. Not to mention it will make me crazy having everyone ask if I named her after Posh Spice's kid since they are being born within days of eachother.
Anyways. If it is a girl, what are thoughts on Adeline or Hazel ?
Any ideas on something along these lines? My husband loves Pearl and I love Sloane - trying to come to a happy medium.
Re: Unique, Old Fashioned Girls name
I wouldn't toss Harper just because of the Beckhams unless you had other reservations about it before. You might feel differently tomorrow or next week.
Nonetheless, Adeline is lovely. I like Pearl, too. Sloane and Hazel are NMS. Nothing wrong with them, but they just don't do it for me.
Adeline, Hazel and Pearl are all on my own list. I love them! Personally, I would love to see a baby Pearl be born. I've seen plenty of Adelines and I think Hazel is growing in popularity. But I have never seen/heard of a baby Pearl and I think it is just lovely.
Here are some other names from my list that you might be interested in:
Audrey, Cora, Mabel, Beatrice, Cordelia, Ramona, Caroline, Elsa, Georgia, Vivian, Leona, Matilda, Susannah, Betty, June, Edith

I wouldn't totally discount Harper either. A popular name never bothered me..and mine was a very popular one growing up. It's not that big of a deal.
You could try Harlowe...similar sounding to Harper. It think it's a beautiful name.
Also maybe Audrey, love Cora and Caroline as well!
I don't like Adeline. Hazel is different. It would work for some girls, for others it probably wouldn't too flattering.
I love Pearl and Sloane is okay.
Again though, those are definitely names that would work well on some girls, on others they could really be a disaster.
BFP #2 - 3/2/13 * DS1 - BORN ON EDD - 11/13/13
BFP #3 - 11/7/14 * DS2 - BORN ON EDD - 07/21/15
Thanks ladies! I feel a lot better and armed with some great choices. Pearl I was really thinking was too "granny" but maybe not... Hazel is really growing on me and I LOVE Harlowe. Let's just hope we have a moment of clarity when the baby comes (or that its a boy and this will all be a moot point haha.)
Good point too about it working well on some girls and not others though. I was a big Clementine fan - mostly because I loved the idea of Tiny for a nickname, but my husband pointed out how mortifying that could be for a girl that was not, in fact, tiny.
I suppose this is a really silly thing to be stressed about at the last possible minute.
Adeline - LOVE but I think this name is about to get popular too.
Hazel - LOVE, Beautiful name
Pearl - very underused, like it.
Sloane - very Ferris Bueller
Others: Delores, Rosaleen, Vella, Frieda, Eola, Arden, Shirley, Dori
Love Sloane, Harper and Harlowe.
I agree that Pearl is kinda granny sounding. It's a nice name.. but I just can't see it on a little girl.
I LOVE Hazel. What about Alice, Cora, Nora, or Vivian?
And fwiw, I'd ditch Harper, too.
(read it. you know you want to.)

I like Adeline, Hazel, and Pearl. All of them are lovely old-fashioned names that would work well for a baby girl.
I do like Harper - one of the few surname-y first names I like - but I guess I would also hesitate to use it right now (not that I give a snark what celebrities do, but I'd hate for other people to think I did). Sloane does not sound feminine to me at all, nor does it sound old-fashioned - it strikes me rather as trendy in the unisex random-surname-as-first-name sense. But maybe I am missing all the 90-year-old grannies named Sloane.
Of course I love Hazel (see sig)!
I don't like Adeline, how about Adelaide?
Make a pregnancy ticker
I like Adeline or Hazel better thenn Harper anyway!
I vote Hazel
Same here lol I love the name Evelyn too. Call her Evie when she is little and it will be so cute.
I love Hazel. Sloane was on our list too. As was Campbell. One of my new faves is Eloise.
Good luck and congrats!
I love this thread! I'm really stuck on old fashioned names, but I have a hard time getting the hubby onboard. The funny thing is had this been a boy, we would have agreen on a name almost instantly.
I'd stay away from Harper.
My favorites: Evelyn, Madeleine, Vivian, Lillian, Laurel, Grace.

I'm going to be honest, I'm glad to see Harper go, I am not a fan of that name!
My vote goes for Hazel. Adeline will likely be shortened to Addie which is so close to Addison, which I dislike. Hazel is a hidden gem imo.
I like both Adeline and Hazel.
I love Elizabeth, Ruby, Violet and Lillianne
I didn't realize my name was considered "old fashioned"! I know I was born in the seventies, but dang!
I know a baby Pearl!
I like Adeline, Hazel and Pearl. I very much dislike Sloane.
Other names that are more unique: Dorothea/Dorothy, Edith, Esther, Viola, Harriett, Matilda, Ruby, Iris, Astrid, Vivian (obviously, we're a fan), Eleanor, Helena, Clara, Leonie, Lora, Johannah, Agnes, Elspeth, Florence, Martha, Rosalie
Sloane and Hazel - Thumbs down. Just not my style. Same goes for Harper
I love Adeline. Hazel is NMS.
Some other names that are old fashioned and also unique in that they haven't had a huge popularity resurgence...
Arden
Althea
Clementine
Dorothy
Iris
Opal
Ruby
Stella
Vera
