1st Trimester

Low progesterone 8.5 :(

I am being put on Prometrium pills to help raise my levels. I'm pretty discouraged at this point, even though I've had no spotting and only mild cramping that has started to go away. Anyone had a low level like this and still had a healthy pregnancy??

I was a 6.6 with my son - went on the suppositories through 12 weeks and have my healthy boy!

Good luck ... it's discouraging but hopefully it'll be ok!

  • I had 2 m/c after DS, when I got pregnant this time my doctor sent me for blood work and my progesterone levels were low, between 7-13 is what she told me so they put me on the Prometrium pills. I was almost 5w when I started taking them, now I'm 11w/3d.

Everything I read was very positive on the prometrium treatment. IMO it will only help, so try to stay positive and relax

  • I have a history of low progesterone.  After my first m/c I was put on progesterone at 5 weeks with my second pregnancy and have a healthy 4 yr old girl!  I was also put on progesterone with this pregnancy and baby is growing and doing great and I should be able to stop the progesterone after I hit 12 weeks.  Keep your head up!  This is a good thing and I'm sure baby will be just fine! Good luck!

  • With my first pregnancy, I had spotting and found out it was due to low progestrone. It was super low like a 6.5 I was put on Prometrium until 12 weeks. I had a healthy little girl who is now 3. With this pregnancy, I decided to get it checked even though I've had no complications. Once again it was low 8.3 I was put on Prometrium again and stopped taking it last week when I turned 12 weeks. Prometrium will raise your levels rather quickly. You just need to take them until the placenta starts taking over which is between 10-12 weeks.
  • Me...mine was that low and they started me on Prometrium right away! They told me today at my appt that I can stop! And the u/s today was AMAZING!!!

  • I started on suppositories at 5.5 weeks with my 1st pregnancy and have a healthy little girl because of it.  I'm pregnant with my 2nd now and was started on progesterone suppositories as soon as I got my BFP.  I will be on them until week 13.  I'm 11 weeks today and so far so good!
  • I was a SIX the first time...then a nine...then a 9.9  It will go up with the prometrium. It will go up gradually. All of the OB's I have talked to (its part of my job to talk to these prescribers daily) say it is a concern if and when levels are below 5. anything between 5-25 is something that they find normal and see often. Below double digits gets supplemented with either suppositories or prometrium. I think this is more common than we think. I was very discouraged too.

I have my second u/s tomorrow. First u/s only saw a gestational sac at 5 weeks. Wish me luck. I will let you know how it goes. Don't be discouraged. This prog is only one part of the equation. focus on your HCG and I bet you will smile. That one seemed to shoot right up for me. It's a nice positive reinforcer.

Thank you, Carly!! From the way the nurse said "8.5" it sounded like, "uh oh, you're in big trouble." :( But thank you for the encouragement and support. I go back in today to check hcg & prog. levels again. Were you taking the pills or suppositories? I am taking one 200 mg pill each night. Not sure why I was prescribed the pill over suppository or if it even matters. Will know blood test results tomorrow....

GOOD LUCK at your ultrasound! Sending you T&P! Please let me know how it goes! Big Smile

  • I was offered both choices. I have the pills for the nights when I hurt. I started on The pills but I honestly feel like the suppositories worked faster. I am still under a ten and have already seen a heartbeat.

Don't be discouraged and push to get your blood drawn. It makes me feel better when I see the numbers go up. So.... I am confident yours will go up. Please keep us posted.

GOOD LUCK and lots of thoughts and prayers from here. xoxo
