If you use a sleep sack

What do you do when your LO can unzip it and get themselves out of it?!?!?!? DD has just learned to unzip her sleep sack. This is NOT good! What can I do? I'm afraid to put tape over the zipper because she will just pull that off. Should I try to put it on backwards?? I don't think she'll sleep without it and she's too young to just put a blanket in the crib with her. It would never stay on. Advice please.

We used a sleep sack when Molly broke out of the swaddle, but stopped using it when she could roll over.

Do you think she likes having that limited movement or is it a coziness issue?  Molly sleeps in footie sleep 'n plays and doesn't get upset having her limbs free.

Maybe foot jammies would be the answer?

  • Are you sure she needs it?  M sleeps in shorts and a t-shirt in the summer and long sleeves/pj pants in the winter and thats it, but it just depends on how cold your house is.  He has a blanket but its definitely a comfort item rather than for warmth, he usually uses it as a pillow.
  • She's always been in a footed sleeper. Only recently (maybe 2 weeks ago) have we tried just pants and a shirt. But I hate to have her sleep without any "covers" at all, especially with nothing covering her feet.

  • Inside out worked for us!

  • My LO is just a couple months older then yours, and he still sleeps in a sleepsack.  I think it helps him to have that extra layer, and he likes the snugness it provides.  He has never gotten the zipper undone, or given any indication that he's even tried.  He used the Halo ones, with the inverted zipper, what ones do you use?  I don't know how it'd work to put it on backwards because then it'd be higher on her neck.  I agree though, too young for a blanket.  She's past the prime SIDS risk, but if she's anything like mine, and probably most her age, a blanket wouldn't stay on for very long.  My LO moves way to much in his sleep!

  • We use the Halo ones, as well. I've been putting it on inside out as others suggested and, so far, it's working. It's a little more difficult to get off, but if it keeps her from getting out of it, it's worth it.
