Dog allergy

My daughter's allergist always said, "if you are allergic to dogs, you are allergic to ALL dogs."  This article confirms that.

I should show this to the people in my family who think she won't react to their dogs.  Dude, people, she is DEATHLY allergic.  She is going to react!  Every dog gives off allergens and they all have saliva!

DS#3 is allergic to dogs too.  We had a dog (13 year old Golden Retriever) who died when LO was a few months old.  DH and the other boys keep saying they want another dog. 

I can understand this coming from the boys but from DH?  Your son is allergic! You want him to be miserable?  What if it goes so poorly that we have to find a new home for the dog?  You want your boys to be heartbroken?  

For me, it's just a big fat no.  And I want DH to stop talking about it!!!

Luckily our family members don't have dogs anymore either (unrelated to DS's allergy) but I wonder what will happen when LO is old enough to go to friend's houses and they have dogs?

I had never heard that before.  I am sorry for your DD and for you.  DH is allergic to cats and dogs (esp cats) and DS is now having issues with cats (asthma issues).  I find it to be more isolating than the food allergies at times!  Are you going to pursue allergy shots if it is an option as she gets older?  I know nothing about it except that DH's parents didn't want to take the time (money?) to get him shots.

It is extremely isolating.  We have to get babysitters to attend family parties because all of my family members have dogs.  (I know that sounds cruel, but I can't miss my nieces' frist birthday parties).  I may have to pursue allergy shots just for her safety. 

We had to get rid of our dog when she was 10 months old, and I still struggle with that.  I can't get over it.  And to know that she can't be around dogs and this isn't an allergy she will grow out of, makes me extremely sad.

I have talked about this on the boards before, but DH is very allergic to cats and I thought just some dogs, and his mom has 2 dogs, dad has 2 long haired cats, sister got 2 cats and my sister has 2 of each.  Now that Owen is literally having issues (even beginning hours after being exposed), NOW people are starting to feel bad, but nobody cared about DH (except my parents).  Every one of my friends and DS's friends has a dog or a cat.  UGH.  My sister is a hot-button issue for me.  I love her and she is the best, but this is hard.  She lives 2.5 hours away now, but is planning to move within an hour.  Oh, and growing up, DH's parents would bring him to places with pets all the time and you can look back at pictures and see his face all red and he recalls feeling sick for days after.  Um, no.  I am not doing that and people are not going to be happy about it.  TOO bad.  Actually, my fav was the Easter story where we were going to FIL's house and were like, one last visit before we can visit outside because even just staying in the kitchen, both of them were going home and not doing well (Owen needing neb, etc) and that is when we left and realized they were feeding their birds peanuts and I was like, never going back.  People who don't live with allergies don't understand how scary and frustrating it can be.

So sad.  It sounds like your DH is in denial!  I hope your other boys don't hold it against your allergic son.

I really didn't mean to hijack this post, but my SIL who has 2 cats, just put on FB that her DH wants to get a big dog now too.  Not that we could go to their house anyway....

And despite a positive allergy test for dogs, my husband brought our 2 year old to his parents' house and let their "hypoallergenic" dogs crawl all over her. Then, he was frustrated when she sat on my lap and wheezed after they got home. After all, he'd given her a shower. Clearly she was wheezing just to annoy him and because she's seen Mommy wheeze.
