Playing Peek a boo

What's actually considered "playing peek a boo"? DD and I have been playing it for a few months where I hide and then reappear but I recently just read that LO should be playing at around 8-9 months. She laughs and loves it but does that mean she's playing peek a boo?

  • HA!  I just read about that today and thought the same thing.  I know you and I are playing peek a boo but they probably are just laughing at us wondering why we keep hiding our faces.

  • Dr Sears suggests covering your face with a blanket or something and letting them pull it off you and then say 'peekabo'.  That way it's more interactive.  I think that's what they mean by that.  At first you'd have to do all the work but now they can participate in the game.

  • M will pull a blanket or his t-shirt over his face, and then rip it off and laugh like a madman.

DD does this - she'll pull a washcloth in front of her face and drop it quickly. She has such an expectant look on her face, waiting for you to say peekaboo! It started with me doing "the work" but now she does it herself.

This.  It took awhile for her to "get it." I'd put a washcloth over her face and then pull it off.  Now she does it (all the time, I might add, and you better laugh when she does or else...)
