I'm taking a poll, of sorts, without the actual poll.
If you were to put in a fence and your neighbors already had one, so you'd only have to install 3 sides of the fence to enclose your backyard, would you offer to give them some money for the 4th side? Would it make a difference if when they got their fence a few years ago they let you know they were doing it in case they wanted to do it at the same time and split the cost of the shared side of the fence? Also, the HOA dictates we have to all have the same black wrought iron (aluminum) fences and they are pretty pricey. Would you offer them something or no? Just curious what others think.
Re: neighbor/fence scenario and WWYD
No, but you need to ask if you can tie onto it. Often people install fences a foot or so in from their property line. I'd want to get a survey or check out your plot lines to make sure you're not going onto their property.
But in terms of offering money? No. They chose to fence first, and therefore chose to pay. I'd be prepared for them to tell you you can't tie onto it, also.
sorry to post and run last night.
So...the fence that already exists is ours and I'll admit I'm a little irritated that they're going to just use it. It is on my property line and when we had it installed I let them know we were doing it in case they wanted to do it too and use the same company, save a little bit of cash (discount for multi house) etc. and she was a total biotch saying 'what makes you think we need a fence?' um, the fact that you're pregnant, but whatever... so now her kid is 2 and she needs a fence and is going to use ours. Since I'm in the minority with my feelings, I will get over it and not say anything, but I won't like it I don't think it helps that this neighbor is 'that' neighbor. she's just not nice...to anyone. Another neighbor's dog pooped on her lawn once and she marched across the street and asked them to come pick it up. Apparently the 10 minutes it took the husband to get there was too long to wait and she took a shovel and threw the poop on their lawn. When he got there and said 'where's the poop' she pointed to his house. I too hate it when dogs poop on my front lawn, but I'm not sur eI'd ever throw it back at someone. Anyway...this should be an interesting summer!
