so today was the first of 3 water days this week at daycare. i put sunscreen on ds everywhere but where his rash guard shirt and shorts would be. well provider decided not to put his shirt on cause he was the only one with one and she didn't want to create the "why does he have a shirt on" thing which i understood. until i get ds in the bathtub and realise his shoulders are red. when they decided not to put the shirt on they "did put his sunscreen on" (which we have provided and they have barely used...).
Now i'm just pissed because ds has sunburn which could have easily been prevented if they would have put him in the clothes i sent. Its been a ongoing thing that he has sunscreen in his locker, but it almost never i applied. He was a decent farmer tan which he has never had ( i was a sahm and we spent tons of time outside). With my grandma getting 3 spots of skin cancer removed lately, i know i am overly concerned, but come on, if you dc askes for sunscreen to keep in his locker they could use it daily (btw they won't use the spray (wtf) because it makes the floor slippery...)
am i right to be pissed or not??
ps this is a nice place too - good ratio, and it's located in the local school...
Re: not happy with dc - ds has sunburn!
I would be BEYOND pissed. They should have used the shirt. And they should reapply sunscreen every 2 hours. A golfball size amount.

I love these two beautiful children!
I'd be pissed too!
As for tomorrow how about something like this........
" I understand that yesterday DS didn't have his rash guard put one because the other boys didn't have them as well and there are a couple of things I wanted to address, 1. it's a family rule that is wears it for water activities so it will undermine our structure at home if he's taught that it's ok for him to not wear it at school and 2. while I can empathize with the teacher not wanting to potentially listen to all the "why's" in reality it's not all that difficult to say to the kids " that's what his mom sent for him to wear".
I put in bold what I would consider action words, words that are really going to make a point, that people are unable to argue with and that make you look nice while being able to call them on a BS excuse.
It's going to take a couple days for that to heal and you want to make sure that A. you don't have a repeat performance and B. that it doesn't get any worse. IMO it would have been way simpler for the teachers to tell the other kids who cares why he's got a shirt than to put sunscreen on him (which they obviously didn't do a very good job). I know that my oldest had a really hard time understanding why he had to wear cloths for swimming when he was naked in the tub.......well I simply solved that problem by telling him they were special swimming cloths, the kid still refers to stuff by his "swimming cloths". Wouldn't be hard for the teachers to say it's a special swimming shirt.
this.
I would also probably guess they assumed you put it all over if you usually put sun screen on him before school. DS wears a rash guard and I still put it under just in case he takes it off on his own. Yes, a sun burn sucks, but things happen. I bet it will never happen again once you mention it.
On a funny note, DS packed one of his pj tops last week with his swim stuff. His teacher assumed it was for water play so she put it on. I bet it was really funny looking.
