Any IBSers on Buscopan?

What did your doctors say about buscopan while pregnant?

I've been taking buscopan since I was 13. When pregnant with DD, my doc told me it wasn't safe so I stopped while PG and BF. Boy did I suffer, but I was willing to suck it up for my baby :)

Now, my IBS is way worse in this pregnancy. I called a program run out of a Canadian children's hospital that deals with the safety of drugs in pregnancy/BF, and they told me in all studies that have been conducted, buscopan has been shown to be safe for the fetus. WHAT? I'm still not comfortable taking drugs in pregnancy, but my situation is bad enough that I fear dehydration and a trip to the hospital. On really bad days, maybe I should at least consider popping one pill. Still makes me nervous though.

What have your doctors told you?

  • I don't take Buscopan for my IBS, but when I was worried about my other meds my doc put in for a teratogen consult to call me "to make me feel better about taking them." Could you ask your doc if they have something like that? The midwife said that my IBS should get better during pregnancy- what a joke! I feel your pain.
