m/s and exercise

I have been having some pretty intense nausea this time around, and while I had to cut my longer distance runs to 3-4 miles a day of walking/jogging, I have been faithfully doing it each morning.  However, the last few days I feel absolutely drained and extremely nauseas before, during, and after my routine.  Is this a sign that I need to can it and rest a bit, or should I be powering through?

Re: m/s and exercise

  • I'm a big proponent of the 'listen to your body' rule - and there's really no reason to push it.  It sounds like you've been pg before, so maybe you remember that you will feel so much better in a few more weeks.  In the meantime, maybe you can try walking at a different time of day when you typically feel the best, and cut it back to just a few days a week and not every day?

I did not work out very regularly in first tri just cause my body always felt so exhausted that resting felt like the best way to take care of myself in the beginning.  But 2nd tri was a whole different story when my nausea went away and energy rebounded - I was back in the gym every day, and still getting through a few gym days a week even now.

    It will get better!

  • I tried to power through, but there were a couple weeks when I could barely run at all. My m/s is better, but not gone yet (14w). It doesn't hit until noon-ish, so I've slowly started to work some longer runs in during the am. I would take a couple days off and see if it helps. I also found I did better on the treadmill during the really bad weeks. The heat hit me hard when I tried to run outside. Hope you feel better soon.

  • I taught a 6 am Bodypump class while pregnant and luckily, I didn't feel sick until a little later in the day.  Still, I'd eat a few crackers before class (I usually don't eat before class) to help settle my stomach.
