First Flight

We are flying to Yakima, WA tomorrow for my Grandpa's funeral.  This will be Chase's first time flying.  He has a cold right now, making him a bit fussy and we have a 3.5 hour flight, 3 hour layover, and another 45 minute flight.  I'm not looking forward to it.  I'm packing the nasal aspirator and I got a Moby Wrap to keep him close to me.  Does anyone else have advice for me?

Re: First Flight

  • Sorry about your grandfather and that your baby has a cold.  We just are getting better from a cold and the one thing that REALLY made a difference in his comfort was to spray saline in his nose every couple of hours.  It really helped his breathing and helped move things out of his nose.  I took my baby on a flight when he was 4 weeks and had no problems.  I know things could be different if he's got a cold.  We nursed on takeoff and landing.  The hardest part was chaanging the diapers in the tiny bathrooms.  Because he sweated a lot when he had the cold, I would recommend dressing him in the lightest weight onesie you have, especially if you wear him.  My baby got toasty on our flight and was uncomfortable until I changed his outfit.  Good luck

  • We are also going on a flight on Wednesday. I am going to be nursing DS on take off and landing. I am also bringing my Wrap so that I can carry him in the airport ( I will also have DS#1 with me and 2 suitcases so it will make it easier to get around).  My doctor recommended using a gel that moistens the nasal passage... but not the one with Saline... I don't think it is recommended for babies this young...you can ask the pharmacist to help you with that.

I am sure all will go well with the flight!! Good luck!
