5 yo old lying

My five year old is lying straight to my face. Even when standing in front of the evidience he still denies doing it. I am at my witts end with him and so tired of being lied to. Please offer some advice.

    Well, at 5 they are just starting to grasp the mechanics of lying (and actually it's a developmental thing - the ability to lie indicates they are developing more sophisticated cognitive functions). 

    But the lying when the evidence is right there is probably more about wishing that he hadn't done whatever it is he's done. I would do a punishment (we do time outs, but whatever your regular is) for the behavior that he is lying about and then tack on an extra for the lying.

    At 5 their relationship with Mama is  very important to them - he's lying to preserve that relationship, so talk about how lying makes you not trust him (in ways that he can understand) and how it is better to tell Mama the truth.
