Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

It's been scheduled

My d&c has been scheduled for Mon. Can anyone tell me what to expect after? Is it a long recovery time? I just want to get my life back. This has been the worst few weeks for me. Last weekend we buried my grandfather and now I am going to be doing the same for our baby.

Re: It's been scheduled

  • I have not been through that, but I just wanted to say that I am sorry for your loss.  I am sure there are ladies here who will be able to help you.  I wish you all the best.

    Hugs,
    Jenn

We are so thankful that our second daughter, Lillian Elizabeth "Lily", was born healthy and happy on February 11, 2013.  We love her to pieces.

We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011.  She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. We are grateful that if she could not be here with us, that she is healed and whole with the Lord. We look forward to the day when we will get to meet her. We love her so much.

  • I had a d&e on Thursday. I went in super early in the morning and had the procedure at 7:30 am. I was home by 11. That afternoon and night I was groggy but I felt OK. Friday was the worst- I felt like a I was hit by a truck. I guess the pain medication they gave me in the IV had warn off. I literally could not get out of bed. My hips, back, neck, and shoulders were so sore from the position they have you in during the procedure. My husband had to hold my head as I got out of bed.

A nice hot shower helped and while I took the prescription pain medication they gave me- it made me feel crazy. I only took it once and switched to Advil after it wore off. Today I feel A LOT better. The stiffness and soreness is almost gone and I physically feel better- but I'm still tired. The emotions of everything are also starting to hit me now. I'm sad and just plain exhausted.

Hang in there. It's harder in your head than on your body. Best of luck.

  • So sorry for your loss.  I had a D&C 1.5 weeks ago after waiting for 2.5 weeks to miscarry naturally.  I am so glad  that I had the D&C, I felt like I could start moving on.

My recovery was pretty easy.  I felt fine afterwards, just very tired for a few days.  I didn't have any pain and only spotted on and off for a few days.  Overall, it was much easier than the time I spent waiting.

I hope that everything goes well for you and that you have a fast recovery.

I am so sorry for your loss. I was about at the same point (8 weeks) when I had my D&C. It went very smoothly. I had to have a bag of Pitocin in recovery (not sure if that's standard, or if I had problems), so the first day I had quite a bit of cramping. However, I was still pretty out of it, so didn't seem to bother me too much. I bled moderately for 1-2 days, then spotted for a little over a week. I took the week off from work; the worst part for me was the hormonal drop about 4 days after - just very exhausted that day, teary, and dizzy. My beta was negative the week after the D&C, and I got AF 26 days after my D&C.

The day that I had my D&C, my grandmother went into the hospital. Luckily, I was able to drive home to see her before she died. She died a week after she was put in the hospital. When it rains, it pours. What was really hard for me was that I never really got to grieve either loss at that time. I didn't know what I was more upset about. I finally got upset about my grandmother's death the day after the funeral. It was all just too much.

  • Sorry for your loss, and I hope I can answer some of your questions.  I had a D and C a week ago.  I chose to have just local anesthesia to numb the cervix (although they did give me valium and percocet as well).  Aside from a few intense cramps, the procedure wasn't too bad.  It took about 20 minutes and then I spent about 20 mins recovering and my husband drove me home.  I bled moderately for about 2 days, but am still spotting a week later.  I had AF type cramping for most of this week as well.  With a missed miscarriage, be prepared for that sudden hormone drop to mess with your emotions a bit.  Our bodies didn't recognize the lost pregnancy, and the termination of it so suddenly does throw the body for a loop.  Some days I am fine, other days a mess.  Some days I have a decent amount of energy, others feel like I can't even walk down the hall without feeling exhausted.  Best of luck, and feel free to ask any other questions!

  • I am so sorry for your loss.  I had a D&C 6 weeks ago after my 3rd missed miscarriage at 11 weeks.  I have to say that aside from the initial grogginess from the anesthesia and IV painkillers I was fine.  I had no cramping at all and didn't even have to take a Tylenol.  I took it easy that evening and tried not to do anything too strenuous for a couple of days, but I honestly felt fine physically.  Of course I didn't feel fine emotionally, but I am thankful that I didn't have any physical issues to compound my misery.  I bled on and off for 2.5 weeks and got AF exactly 4 weeks after the procedure.  Good luck to you.

  • I am soo sorry to hear about your loss. I felt the same way I just wanted to get back to my life.  My experience was pretty complex seeing I went in at 1:30 after fasting from 7am and was sent home at 8pm bc of 2 emergency cases (it was the day before the holiday)  Came back at 8am and was sent home again due to another emergency.  The hospital called me at 1 to tell me to come in as they would be doing the procedure at 2pm.  It was really emotional more then anything for me.  When my DH left me I started crying and had to walk to the OR, hope on the table and they put in the IV and I don't remember anything else until I woke up.  I guess i had a little trouble breath so they had to put in a breathing tube so I just had a sore throat when i woke up and pain in my stomach.  They gave me drugs for that and was was great.  I have been spotting for about a week though nothing crazy.  The hardest part is the emotional and I know you want to get your life back though my doctor told me to stay way from work for 2 weeks to emotionally recover.  I thank her for that as I have done some great reflextion and I have started to make changes in my life already.  Good luck tomorrow.

  • My physical recovery was smooth. I took 32 hours bereavement leave off work. That day of my d&c I did have to take vicodin for cramping and the next day I believe but other than that it was smooth. So sorry for your loss.
