For starters, I don't agree with everything in the BW books.....but I did follow their recommended routine of eat, activity, and sleep and it worked wonders! The routine had the babies sleeping at the same time and thru the night early on....but now I am having trouble transitioning to a 4 hour schedule. They both seem to still need a nap after being up for only 2 hours! So, the 3 hour schedule seems to work...but they are still taking THREE naps a day....which I've heard is crazy??? How do you extend them to a 4 hour schedule....I've tried twice to extend them but they seem stuck...they want to eat as soon as they awake...they are so fixed on their routine. Any advice is welcome! TIA
Re: Need help from Babywise moms! 6-9 mos question
my boys never went to 4 hour schedule - they were on a 3-hour schedule between bottles until after they were 12mo and were eating mostly table foods.
i don't recall when they went from 3 to 2 naps, but do know they went from 2 to 1 nap at 15mo+.
I don't remember when B&G went down to two longer naps. This is our rough schedule:
6:30 - Wake up, bottle
7:15 - Breakfast, fruit and oatmeal
7:15 - 9:00 - baths, playtime
9:00 - Small bottle that I'm trying to phase out. Naps are right after this bottle
10:30 - wake up
11:30 - bottle
12:30 - lunch
1:30 - 3:00 nap
3:30 - bottle and snack (usually mum mums)
5:00 - dinner
6:30 - start getting ready for bed, bottles at 6:45 in bed by 7:00
This can all shift by about a half an hour depending on length of naps, mood, etc. HTH!
Ughh...I can't remember when we dropped the third nap, I think it was around 6 months?
But, my girls still take 2 solid naps a day, which is unusual from what I understand for kids their age. I don't mind- they seem to need it.
When they started eating 3 meals a day, I shifted their schedule. They wake at 8, nap at 10-12, eat lunch, then nap 3-4:30. Snack at 4:30, then dinner at 6:30, then bed at 7:30.
