How much bigger will my fingers get? Buying a temporary wedding ring

My wedding ring set is now uncomfortable to remove.  I'm 32 weeks right now and don't want to spend the next 6 to 10 weeks not wearing a wedding ring, so I'm thinking of getting an inexpensive temporary band.  Anyone else do this?  Any thoughts on how many sizes bigger I should go so I can wear the temporary ring until LO arrives?  Thanks.

  • Yep, I got one. And it no longer fits. Honestly, I'd just wait.

If you want to get an inexpensive one, maybe go up 2 sizes?

  • My set is a 6 1/2. During my first pregnancy, my DH bought me a white gold band to temporarily replace them in a size 8. It's a little loose, but stays on just fine and I have room to grow if I swell over the summer. I would think 1 1/2-2 sizes bigger should work for most people.

  • I sell jewelry and I typically tell pregnant women to try on quite a few rings to get your fingers swollen to about the worst point it will possibly be when pregnant. It's typically 1 size up from your original size.

  • My H & I got one from Kohls for like $12...and it's one that expands...so it's worked well for me on my more swollen days.  I was like you and I didn't want to go without wearing a ring...so this is what we opted for & it's worked great (although I am eager to wear my wedding rings soon!)

  • I will be having DH buy me a new ring next week,  he didn't even want me to take this one off but it is getting pretty snug and he isn't  the biggest fan of me wearing an expensive ring on a chain around my neck.

  • Instead of buying a temporary band, I wear my rings as a necklace. I hate not having my wedding band on my finger, but it's just too uncomfortable with it on. For us, the necklace version has been working well. This way I feel like I'm still "wearing" my wedding bands.

  • Thanks everyone!  I appreciate all of the good advice.  I should have mentioned that the necklace option won't work for me. My husband's from India and I have an Indian wedding necklace I wear much of the time. Another necklace just won't work with it.
  • i've been wearing a cheap costume ring for a few months now, my fingers are the first to pudge up, even though i'm not really swollen anywhere else and haven't gained a crazy amount of weight. mine is about 1 1/2 sizes bigger & it's actually starting to get a bit tight, but i'm nearing the end. my fingers stayed puffy for a couple months after, so investing $20 on a fake ring was totally worth it IMO.

  • Instead of buying a temporary ring that I'd never wear again or only break out for pregnancies... my DH and I decided to get a nice saphire ring that will commemorate our soon-to-be little one's b-day.  (Due Sept 22).  That way after the birth I can wear it on my other hand and always think of my little one.  Only problem will be if he's born early... ;)

  • I bought one 3 sizes up--so far I have had to use some sticky foamy stuff to have it fit.  I think I would have been fine with 2 sizes up, but then again, the summer and my pg isn't over :)

This is a really good idea!

  • I wish I had thought of this before my first pregnancy... My fingers swelled up so much and I never took my ring off. Then I ended up needing a C-section and they had to saw my ring off... It was kind of painful, not what I needed as I am getting prepped for surgery, and my poor little ring was chopped in half! Luckily, we had purchased insurance and they fixed it at the jewelery store within a few days.
