If you had your VBAC how far along were you? and did your doctor "induce" you?
(First let me say that my insurance restricts me to one hospital in the area) my OBGYN keeps saying that in order to get my VBAC my "stars will have to be aligned" and that i need to present in labor. He then proceeds to say that he will schedule a RCS at 40weeks and doesnt want me to go over due. His reason is that there is not enough "staff" at the hospital in case of an emergency...okay this is a trauma center, life flight comes to, gun shot wounds etc....seriously i think the staffing sounds like BS.
this is causing me a great deal of anxiety. i mean a great deal.
Re: if you had your VBAC how far along were you?
And the ever popular question is, "What do you do for non-VBACs that need a c/s then?".
Even though I had a super supportive practice, this last pregnancy was very stressful b/c I felt like I had so much pressure on me to have everything align, like you said. Do you have a doula by chance? I think having the doula to bounce things off of was what kept me grounded and helped me through some of my negative thoughts. My midwives were great too, but my doula was worth her weight in gold and I could call her pretty much anytime.
I know it's easier said than done, but try not to get ahead of yourself (I totally did it, but wish I didn't).
ETA: Oh, and my local ICAN meetings were awesome too!
Did you ask him what they do for an emergent c-section in a first-time mother? I agree that it's fishy, it sounds like he isn't really supportive of VBAC. Are there any other doctors who work out of the same hospital you can go to instead?
Ugh, sorry you have to deal with this! I had a really supportive MW the whole time, even though I went late (as in, at least 41+ weeks, but probably more like 42 weeks even), and it was so, so stressful waiting to go into labor.
It might help to contact your local ICAN chapter and see if anyone's had a VBAC there and how they did it. I agree with getting a doula, and I would refuse to schedule a RCS at 40 weeks, but schedule one for 41+ weeks instead. You have a right to request non-stress tests past 40 weeks instead. There's not a huge risk with going past 40 weeks, even with VBAC. hth and good luck!
DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)
I am trying for a VBAC and I'm currently 40w 3d. I will do a NST and fluid U/S on Monday, and a NST every 3 days until 42 weeks, which is when I get to choose between RCS and induction (with low dose pit only).
i would find another doc at your hospital if at all possible.
Ditto all of this. I'd look around for a more supportive doctor, this one doesn't sound very supportive.
I was 39w2d when I had my VBAC and I went into labor on my own. My doctor would have been fine with me going to 42 weeks. I had a home birth so I'm not sure exactly what we would have done at that point, but thankfully I didn't have to find out.
I was 39.5 weeks
I was scheduled to be induced that day for other medical reasons, but only b/c I wanted to be. I didn't feel comfortable going past 40wks due to my medical reasons, though my OB was ok with me going until 41.5 weeks....I actually went into labor when my water broke, and I was helped along w/pitocin.
