Re: WDYT of Emerson
I'm not 100% what gender this baby would be... I'm thinking boy?
I'm not a huge fan of Emerson. It's ok...but I prefer Emmet for a boy and Emmeline for a girl
Parents to:
gotcha. I like Emerson a lot more for a boy than for a girl (I think girl's names that end in "son" are so odd). But you should know that it IS more popular for girls right now.
And Ryan is also being used for girls these days, so if you decide to go with the name, I would choose a really overtly masculine name.

I knew a sonny (boy nickname) and he was in his mid twenties, it was adorable and fit his personality great, so the nickname does age well.
I think Emerson is great. Its classic without being trendy.
DH is trying to sell me on Emryss for a girl and though bumpies hate it and I was slow to catch on, it's growing on me. Everyone keeps suggesting Emerson to me as an alternative.
DH MN is Ryan...
I've only met one girl named Ryenne... her sisters name is Blayke
My daughters name is Cecelia, and if this turns out to be a girl her name will be Eloise... I am not a fan as using boy names for girls, although I am aware of how popular it is.
I did however suggest Kelly to my DH, because I grew up with it being 100% a boy's name.
Parents to:
My DD is Emery. The Bump hates Emery, too. Shrug.
There have been a couple people who think Emery = boy only, but mostly of the older generation when Emery was a more popular man's name. And I knew that going in and it doesn't bother me.
My Ovulation Chart
No I don't think so.
By Definition EMERSON - English for Emery's SON....
I am convinced that it is a boy's name.
Parents to:
Me too; unfortunately people naming their daughters Emerson don't seem to agree.
I like Emerson okay. I'm not crazy about it, but I think it's a good solid name (I do like pp's suggestion of Emmett better, and I also like Everett). I love the name Ryan.
Haha I agree, but I kept my mouth shut... and I needed to stand up for my opinion. LOL
Parents to:
Love it.
And OP, I really like it. Aside from the obvious association, it also makes me think of Detective Emerson Cod from Pushing Daisies!
You have got me all wrong. I am not arguing that Emerson is a gender neutral name. I think it's lovely for both sexes. I would not think twice about a little girl named Emerson. I was just pointing out that it's original intent was for a boy's name. And I am sure it's truly a Surname like Madison, or Morgan...
I am not against using gender neutral names... obviously because I LOVE the name and don't care either way. I just stated the obvious.
And I in no way intended to offend any one's naming choice if your DD is named Emerson. I am only saying IMO Emerson is more masculine than feminine.
I LOVE the name Kelly. Traditionally a Boy's name, now MUCH more common for girls... You still see it... But it's also a surname....
I think MOST gender neutral names are traditionally surnames.
I do not see the need for the harshness... I am obviously using it for a boys name, and I do not see why it is so important for people to make it known it can be a girls name too... -ugh- SSA's site can prove that.
