Hello everyone,
I just came across this board and it seems like a great resource!
Just a brief introduction - I am due with my first baby in early September and am beginning more thorough research on many different topics in preparation for the baby's arrival.
At this time, we are planning on using non-disposable diapers. I've heard great things about Bum Genius, but didn't know really what would be more economical or better for the environment (obviously the re-usables at home require washing- soap/ water expense plus the time), so was wondering if anyone has experience or advice for diaper services in the area. I've done some searching, but not sure how one service compares to another, or what the cost comparison would be (not knowing really how often or frequently we'd need to be washing at home if we go that way).
Anyways, that got a bit wordy, but I'd greatly appreciate any insight any of you may have.
Thanks in advance!
Re: Diaper service?
Hello and welcome to the board! Congrats on your pregnancy.
I don't have any diaper service recs, but we definitely have some CD experts on his board. There is also a Cloth Diaper board on The Bump that has fantastic resources. The girls here referred me to that board and I was able to do a ton of research from their resources. Good luck! And stick around here; it's a fun supportive group.

I agree with Dawnies' suggestion of the CD board. The only experience I have with a diaper service is Baby Diaper Service in Seattle (though I live in Everett/Mukilteo and got service just fine). It was OK but they only offer prefolds, which I really didn't like at all. So, I stopped the service, bought some fitteds and pockets and now wash at home. It's really not that much work to do the washing and well worth it.
Punkernoodle and Cozy Baby Boutique are local stores that carry cloth diapers so you can see them in person and ask questions.
I also agree, lurk on the CD board, you will get lots of info from them. If cost is part of your equation, definately buy your own...services can be just as expensive as disposables. I only do wash 2-3x a week: Water is cheap, and I only dry the inserts, but hang dry the covers. I wash at night time, hang, and they are ready in the morning. It takes about 5 minutes to stuff them. You do have to use special detergent, but one of the "cloth safe" ones is Planet, which i can get on sale at Fred Meyers for $4.79, so it doesn't have to be expensive.
I do love my BGs, and they go on sale every once in a while on cottonbabies.com buy 5, get 1 free, or you can buy used for even cheaper.
Sorry, not trying to change your mind, but just offering up my .02 If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! And congrats and welcome, BTW!
link that helped me tremendously!!

Thank you, ladies! Great information, I appreciate it!
Really glad I found this board.
This! I liked the service when I was at home, but went to disposable once I went back to work. Easier for me and for daycare. The customer service at baby diaper service was amazing!
Can I ask which service you used? It's hard to distinguish between them just looking online - it's great to know (sort of) first-hand specific services that worked well.
Thanks!
Baby Diaper Service
I think they are the only one (from what I recall of my research) that goes outside the city limits, too.
