Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Britax advocate or boulevard owners, please come in.

So we just got this yesterday and it is great. But those rubber attachments on the shoulder straps dig in to DD's chin/neck. They look SO uncomfortable. Why are they on there? Can I take them off?  If I move them down, the chest clip has to move down as well and I thought that had to be on her sternum?  Thanks

  • I *think* I remember seeing in the manual (we have a boulevard) that they should not be removed. They were up by DS's neck when we first transitioned him but he's since grown a little bit so it's not an issue now. I did take the soft covers off though because they bothered him. The chest clip should be at nipple-level.

The rubber HUGS aren't required when RF, but are when FF.  You you can take them off now, but just don't lose them.

ETA:  They move independently of the chest clip, so you can move them down if you want.  The chest clip should be at armpit level.

    Ok great!  Thanks ladies!

  • We don't have them high enough to dig into her neck or chin.  You can pull the rubber parts down while keeping the plastic clips in place.

Well, no because the rubber part will stop at the top of the chest clip.  And based on where the chest clip goes, the rubber things will dig in to her chin with the height she is now.  I will check the manual to be sure, but someone said they can be off RF so I will do that. Thanks!

  • Yeah, we removed ours when I first tried to put my 6 month old in her seat and couldn't get the straps tight enough because of the HUGS. She's still rearfacing so we're keeping them off for now. At least until she grows some more. They help to absorb the impact of a crash, especially when forward facing.

  • We just started using ours and I thought that I read that if you take off the HUGS you can not put them back on...

I don't have the manual with me so I can't check.
