Spelling opinions please

For "LAY-LA"

Layla

Laila

Leyla

Leila

Aesthetically DH and I greatly prefer the name with an "i" in it. I am thinking though that it would be mis-pronounced as either "LIE-LA" or "LEE-LA". Spelling it Leila to me would lead to the most confusion on how to pronounce the name so as of now Laila is what we are thinking but I wanted your opinions :) Please and Thanks!

Re: Spelling opinions please

  • I prefer Leila too, but I think to be 100% sure to get the pronunciation you want, Layla would be the best choice.

  • I prefer the original spelling, Layla, and I think it's a bonus that it is the most obvious to pronounce.

  • I have known two Leilas spelled that way and I don't think they had much pronounciation trouble.. I like that spelling best
  • I've known three people with this name, and they all spell it Leila. I like that spelling best, and I don't think that it will be too confusing to pronounce.

  • Layla will always be my preferred spelling because that's how Eric Clapton spells it!

I would probably spell it Leila or Layla. Layla would more than likely be the best for pronunciation. Plus not everyone thinks of Hawaiian Lei's for pronunciation. You might get people saying La- I-la with the spelling you are thinking about.

  • My doctors first name is Leila.  I always assumed that you pronounced it Lee-La, but I never asked because I always call her Dr. Last Name.
