do you use a nightlight

Before LO wouldn't sleep unless it was BLACK in his room, like can't see your hand in front of your face.. For the past few weeks he's slept so bad. I had to turn a light on to see, so I used the nightlight and he was happy as soon as I turned it on. Used it again last night and thankfully he sttn again!

Do you use a nightlight? When did you start?

Re: do you use a nightlight

  • We stopped using a nightlight when we read that most kids who get use to the dark will be comfortable without a night light..i leave the blinds in her room open a little so some light comes through.

Can you leave the hall light on and the door cracked open a little instead? That way you can turn it off when he's sound asleep?

I feel like it's not a problem falling alseep. When he goes down it's about 8pm and still light out. He wakes up at 11pm or 3am super upset. Not sure if he's scared of the dark or what

  • we use a nightlight for both kids.  For DS2 is it so I don't break my neck going in in the middle of the night.  DS1 requires it.  We have one that replaces the outlet because he wold play with the plug in one.  He also has a candela light that he can sleep with.  I love that thing.

  • We don't use a nightlight, but I guess the FP Seahorse might qualify.  We still use it every night and he sleeps with it and will turn it on for himself if he wakes up in the middle of the night.  I'll wake up sometimes and hear it on the monitor.  It glows really brightly.  I'm not sure if that would help your LO or not, but it definitely soothes mine.

LO broke her nightlight so we just leave her closet light on and then crack the closet door.

  • we have them in both their rooms, we used to have them for going in in the middle of the night & just have left them there. since we still go in in the night way.too.often it is nice to be able to see.

but, my kids wake up screaming as if they're scared sometimes even with the nightlight...

We've used one with her since she was born.  It's part of our routine.  Turn on the monitor, turn on the night light, turn on the white noise, turn out the light.  She never fusses with it I don't see not using it anytime soon.

At first it was to help me in the middle of the night when I was nursing her.  Now it's part of our night time ritual.

  • We use a nightlight.  It's for us, not for the boy.  I don't like stumbling in the dark when he's screaming for his baba, mama or dada, etc.

  • We have a tooli nightlight, and really I got it because I want to be able to check on her from the doorway without turning on the light, if we didn't have it on she wouldn't care, it is for me, and once she falls alseep I put it on the floor almost underneath her bed so the light isn't shining in her face, before I usually set it on the ottoman.

  • We have since we put DD in her crib in her room.  It's not for her, it's for us.  I don't want to walk in if she needs us for something and turn on a lamp or the main light...it's too much if I want to keep things quiet and dark so she'll go back to sleep easier.  I've read in several books that babies don't usually get scared of the dark and need a light until they are closer to age 3.  Before then is usually more for the parent.
