So I got my very first speeding ticket last week in Kirkland. Are there any options to not get this on my record? I heard about being able to defer tickets as long as you don't get another one. How fo I do this? The ticket doesn't have many options. I really want to preserve my clean record. My ticket is only for going 5 over. Anyone have ideas or tips?
Re: Speeding ticket options - Kirkland
You actually want to contest it. And appear at the hearing. They will probably offer up the deferral since you have never had one. I believe you have to have a clean records for 3 years but I could be wrong. If you get another traffic offense then that ticket goes on record.
You were able to get it deferred and did not have to go back? WHOOO HOOO!!!
Also it stays deferred for 3 years.
Heck yes! I thought they'd make me go back for court, but nope!
I got a speeding ticket in Kirkland 8ish years ago. Since it was my first ticket, I opted to get it deferred. I think it was deferring. I chose the option to go to the court room to explain and it turns out the officer turned in the paper work too late, so they had to throw it out!
High Five! They just wanted your money! Now no more speeding, lady!
I just went to court to mitigate a speeding ticket a few weeks ago. If this is your first, you will have the option to defer the ticket. When you go in (may be 3 months from now) if they don't offer it, ask for it! You will pay the fine and be on your way.
The fine varies from various locations. Mine was in marysville and I had to pay the full price of the original ticket. But after that it's gone. Done. over. wiped clean. You are "allowed" one defferal every 7 years.
My last speeding ticket was 7 years ago and I was able to defer that one too. I must have just passed my eligibility mark since I was shocked the judge said I was eligible this last month!
The previous one was in Redmond and it was a $100 fine to defer and if you got another ticket in a 1 year period, this one WOULD go on your record and it would be reversed. I remember being peeved since my ticket was for around $70 and i had to pay $100.
SO, it's different in different locations, but most likely you will be eligible.
I don't know if it helped me or not, but I sat in the front row of the courtroom. Everone else sat in the back or at least a few rows back, but I decided I was going to sit front and center. Maybe it helped. lol
I had a FFFC on this a few weeks ago since I didn't tell DH I had gotten a ticket. Then after I got the deferral, I decided to NOT tell him at all!
I'm going to make an AWESOME big brother.
The cop (this KID was barely 21 I sware) told me I was going 13 over, but made the ticket for only 5. It was this little spot over by the Brown Bag Cafe in Totem Lake where 116th turns into Slater and the speed drops from 35 to 25, for only like 2 blocks. I wasn't paying attention...rushing to meet the movers and needed to stop at Starbucks first.
I just sent the ticket in with the Mitigation Hearing requested. I didn't want to admit fault. Thanks for all the responses ladies!
