Biting while in a back carry

DS  is 18 months and I carry him on my back in a Beco every afternoon while walking my dogs. He has started biting me, hard! He will also grab my hair and pull it. He only does it while being worn and only with me (not DH, who wears him every morning). Any ideas for gentle discipline? I feel helpless when he's on my back and I can't do anything to stop him. When I yell "No biting!" he laughs. He never bites at any other time so I'm not sure how to work through this.

Re: Biting while in a back carry

  • Dude, I feel for you. #3 did this. The first time was in Target, and she wouldn't let go. After a few times of asking...going to yelling, I smacked her leg (not what I wanted to do, but damn it hurt).

I was able to put her down and march her back to the car...it doesn't work so well when walking the dogs. She lost the "wearing" privileges,  but that didn't do much because it was more for my convenience. I made sure I put her in the stroller everywhere I went.

The biting the back carried on for about 6 months on and off. :(

  • Could he be teething? Maybe you could give him something to play with while he's back there, and if he's teething, give him something he can chew on.  Also, my DS likes to help me walk the dog, so sometimes I attach an extra leash and let him hold onto that.  Maybe these distractions will keep him from biting you.  Good luck!
