you have both been really helpful with ideas and support when ive posted a few times this week, i just wanted to say thanks and that i really appreciate it! i was searching for a chicken and/or beef stock- i cook often with them and all the ones ive seen say "natural flavors" or something else weird that makes me think it may contain soy- any suggestions on brands you use?
i felt so lost when i found out my daughter had food allergies and have gotten to such an amazing place with being confident and happy in the foods i make her that are so yummy! this soy thing is all new to me though and i feel so desperate again and lost. i appreciate your help a ton!
Re: magdusia and thatsmary
I know you may not want to hear this, but Soy is extremely difficult to control if you're not making most foods yourself. For Chicken Stock or Turkey Stock we roast a bird and make our own.
Once you've stripped the bird, place the remains in a large pot. Fill with water, add potatos, carrots, celery, onions, salt and pepper. Slow cook it on low for 24 hours. You're going to have to strain it into mason jars.
But if you're looking for soy free turkey stock, I happen to know that Trader Joe's makes an awesome one. I don't know about chicken or beef though since we can't have those.
Good Luck!
I use Kitchen Basics stock. Check out their allergen info on the lower right hand of their website.

That's so sweet!!!!! I really love this board and the support. I think FA is miserably hard on parents and kids and knowing you're not alone is helpful
Like pp said.. you can make your own. I don't usually cook with stock, i tend to use water mainly b/c of the same reason and i don't always have made stock available.. The few times i did make my own it was when i used a crock pot, but it's vegetable stock since I'm a vegetarian.
Soy allergy is the most annoying one.. it's in everything
Thanks! I find the board helpful too.
I actually have only been doing this a couple months and so far have not used stock (odd, huh?).
I am also a vegetarian
.
Okay, so I don't know if you have a Trader Joe's (or Whole Foods) near you, but if you do, check them out. The Trader Joe's "Savory Broth Vegetable" packets I have left over from months ago contain: vegetable extracts (tomato, mushroom, onion, carrot, celery), sugar, maltodextrin (corn), salt, yeast extract. Although it does say: Made on equipment shared with wheat, milk, eggs, peanuts, soy, fish, and shellfish. Facility processes tree nuts. (And I'm sure every other possible thing that you may be allergic to! Wow! That list is crazy!)
