Car seat: Graco vs Maxi-Cosi?

Please chime in if you have direct experience (positive or negative) with the Graco Snugride infant car seat or the Maxi-Cosi Mico infant car seat.

I have the Bugaboo Bee stroller, and those are the only two infant seats that can work with adapters.

I'm a small, not very strong gal, so lightweight is important.  All the other reviews online are conflicting -- equal parts good and bad.  It's hard to decide!

We have two small compact cars (a Prius and a Leaf), so if size/fit matters, let me know.

  • I didn't have either, but I can say that I still kick myself for buying a different brand than Graco.  EVERYTHING accomodates Graco.

  • Safety wise they're pretty much the same. Design wise I find the Mico will go better with the sleek modern look of the Bee. The Graco has a rubber piece in the center of the handle, the Mico doesn't. They are almost the same weight, both have a canopy and both have an infant head insert. The Mico snaps in on the left and right side and the Graco snaps in on a bar that goes across. They're both the same as far as sturdiness. With that in mind, pick the one you like the look of better...

  • I am also getting the bugaboo bee. We choose the Maxi-cosi because its safe and light weight.  I also like the look better than the snug ride.  A lot of people complain that the harness is difficult to buckle but we tried it out at the store and had no problem.

  • The Micro's base has some problems installing with some cars.  Basically, the base hits the buckles and latch anchors strangely.   It's a nice seat, but I'd recommend you go try it in your car(s) before committing.

  • We have the Snugride 35 and I have no complaints.

I have a Suzuki Reno (read: small hatchback with itty bitty backseat) and it fits fine in the middle of the backseat.

The infant seat is only heavy when my DS is in it... he weighs between 16-17 pounds now. The seat alone is really light. So the weight of the seat all depends on the size of the baby.

Yes, the snugride does have rubber around the handle. But I see that as an advantage. Bare plastic tends to be slippery, so the rubber helps me get a good grip.

  • Maxi Cosi, looks better, fits well in small cars and is safe :) I love our maxi cosi (we have a Euro model as we live over here)

  • If I had to do it again, I wouldn't buy a Graco. Honestly, their design is bulky, their handles are bulky, they're heavy, and their patterns aren't modern if you're going to use them with a stroller adaptor.
