Baby naming question yes or no?

Hello.

My DH and I fell in love with a name, Rowan. The problem is that we know someone who has a child with the same name.

The child is 6 years old and we are not terrible close to the family, but we do have some of the same friends.

Is it a "no-no" to use the name, or is it fair game??

Thanks :-P

It's fair game.  Use it if you love it!

  • Your aloud to name your child whatever your little hearts desire! Go for it Smile

  • I think it's fair game.  If anything, they will take it as a compliment since it is a rare name, whether or not you got it from them.  If you ever run into them, tell them how much you loved the name.  Not everyone in this world can have a unique name, there are always going to be repeats!
  • Totally fair game. I don't believe in forbidden names.

  • Fair game. Use it!
  • I say use it.  No one owns a name.
  • it is fair game IMO.

The odds of your kids being friends or going to the same school is probably pretty slim, I wouldn't worry about it.

  • Its absolutly fair game. Especially if you aren't terribly close to them. But, if your worried about it, you could change it slightly - like the name Ronan.

  • Fair game.

If we have a boy we are naming him jackson which happens to be a distant cousins name.  We never see them so it's not like they would ever get confused.

  • A good friend of mine got pregnant with her daughter a year before I did and ended up using the same name we'd had picked out for a future daughter for years. She didn't know this was "our name"  and I just told her when she told me the name they'd chosen that if DH and I ever had a little girl they'd have the same name because it had been our chosen girl name for years. She was totally fine with it and actually thought it was cute. So we have daughters one year apart with the same name. We don't see eachother very often but even when we do it's not a big deal. I say it's fair game and use it if you love it :)

  • Fair game. Our girl name is my SILs neice but we had it picked out well before we met them. Our boy name is also a friend of mines sons name, I spoke to her about it and she was fine with it.

  • I say it is fair game. I was named after my mother's best friend's daughter because my mom loved the name. It was fun growing up together. Go for it.

  • I really liked the name Cali but a girl I went to school with back in grad 7-9 who i havent seen since then lol.. just named her girl that in May. I automatically had to change my name cuz i wouldnt want to look like a copy cat as silly as it may seem and it makes it not as special. So in your case... no i wouldn't use that name, but if u did whatever they will get over it lol
