Food Allergy

Nervous

DD was diagnosed MSPI and I went milk and soy free 2 weeks ago. I EBF. The pedi asked me to call today with an update. I did. The update is her stool is still mucousy, she is still very gassy, and last Thursday she started projectile vomitting. I also asked if we needed a F/U or if we would just check in at her 4 month check in 2 weeks. The nurse called and asked about her fussiness and whether I have been eating almonds. Then told me that she could get me in tomorrow so they could check her belly and recheck her stool. Is this typical? I am very afraid they are going to want to put her on formula. Are there any questions I should ask? Should i consult an allergist? Any words of wisdom or comfort welcome!

Re: Nervous

  • With my first son- my elmination diets never worked.  Simply because I wasn't elminating the right foods.  I'd absolutely see an allergist.  If she's symptomatic after you cut milk/soy- there's another food that's bothering her.  You could do a total elmination diet in the mean time.  www.askdrsears.com has info on a full elmination if you want to go that route.

  • Some babies are very sensitive to the milk protein and elimination or not, we make some of our own.  I wish I could give you news you want to hear, but I was unable to continue nursing my son.

  • also- have you elminated all of the hidden sources of dairy/soy or just the big things (milk, butter, ice cream etc.)?  Milk and soy can hide in all kinds of products.

  • I just wrote i your other post.. I would get her tested..  call the allergist today and if there is a long wait and you can't go in even as an emergency i would try other allergists until you get someone to take you early.  In the mean time, avoid the top 8 and see how she does.

Sometimes putting a baby on formula is safer. I know it sucks especially when you are so dedicated to BFing but if they can't figure out what's causing it than you might have no choice.  But i would first try to eliminate before going that route, especially since you are so dedicated to BFing.

I honestly stopped asking my pedi too many questions about FA b/c she just kept blaming everything on my vegan/vegetarian diet during the pregnancy.  So i now call my allergist only if it's anything related to FA.

yup.. her theory is the reason most kids have FA has a lot to do with the mothers diet while she was pregnant -i agree to an extend. But her main though is that it's b/c i was a vegetarian.   I do agree that it's something in my diet.. perhaps the GMO i ate and too much soy.. but not b/c I'm a vegetarian.. It took a long time for me to really come to terms that it wasn't my fault.
