Re: Overwhelmed with baby to do list?

  • I was with my first and then realized after my first that all the things that are supposedly needed aren't ALL absolutely necessary. Even some of the things that are necessary (or convenient) won't be needed for several months after baby is born (babyproofing, high chairs, baby play mats and excersaucers, etc)

Also, you have quite a few months to work on everything so just try one thing at a time. Maybe ask some mom friends of yours what they needed/didn't need as this will really help your "to do list" get a bit more realistic.

ETA: lots of us here have gone through it before so we can help too.

  • For me the idea of planning an entire nursery is overwhelming and to be honest right now I could care less. When I think about our baby I think about all the after stuff, as in all the stuff we have to buy is already done. I think about spending time with the baby, family events and activities. I got like this for my wedding too. I was so excited to be married that I forgot for months that I needed to plan the wedding and reception. ::blushes::

I just don't get excited to buy and plan all of this stuff. If I could just guide someone towards what I want and have someone else deal with the hassle of price comparing, making sure stuff looks good etc...I'd be sooo down with that. Like a wedding planner...but for babies. :) Of course I would be anal about certain things, car sear and crib...safety standards and all. But if someone else wanted to do all the homework for me....that would be cool too! :) hehehe

  • Maybe I am overconfident, but I am pretty sure that as long as I have a place for the baby to sleep and a pediatrician that everything else will work out.  I'm sure I can send my husband or mom out for something if we forget to set it up before the baby is born.

And besides, we have a LOT of time. :)

Baby N conceived after 1 miscarriage and more than 2 years of TTC. Diagnosis was low sperm count. We found success after 3 months of anastrozole to increase DH's testosterone and one IUI.

  • Really all the baby needs is love, food, safety (car seat), something to stay warm, diapers, and somewhere to sleep.

Everything else is really icing on the cake. Just take it one thing at a time and remember you still have until February :)

  • Babies really don't need very much in the beginning.  Food, a few outfits, some diapers and love.    All the other stuff is just bonus stuff.

...and this is coming from someone who's had everything perfectly set up 8 weeks before my baby was born.

Please don't stress about stuff.   I had fun setting everything up.  You have plenty of time.  Have fun with it.

  • I'm not really worried, like stressed about it.  But I'm finding myself researching nursery themes and pinning stuff on pinterest, and it seems never-ending.  There's nothing jumping out to me that I love.  Then the thought of researching the stroller and stuff that best suits OUR needs, and figuring out if we really need this or that, it's just a lot to do.  I'm equating it to wedding planning because I have months to plan for it and so much crap to research and figure out.  I know in the end it doesn't matter much and everything will be fine and we don't need a lot, but it just seems like it's going to be a lot of research and I don't feel like doing any of it right now. :)

  • I'm waiting to not feel like sleeping/ puking all the time- if it goes much past 14+ weeks, I might get a little concerned and ask for help to take care of things.
