Eczema

Aquafor is not working well enough anymore for DS's eczema, especially with our lovely 90+ degree weather outside.  The pediatrician recommended 1% hydocortisone cream.  What do you use for your LOs, and how has it worked?

Re: Eczema

  • the pedi gave us a prescription for 2% hydrocortisone cream, and we use Lubriderm (pedi recommended) 2-3 times a day. i also try to give him a bath every day, but if we go every other day it's fine. i just notice that his skin is much better with more frequent bathing,

he was broken out in welts, his skin was so bad. within a day and a half, it cleared up with the two new creams.

  • We are using the 1% cream and aquaphor, and it's frustrating. every time it looks better, DS scratches himself in his sleep and it looks worse again. :( I thik we are going to ask for a prescription cream next week. I am not sure what else to try-thinking about the aveeno eczema lotion.

  • We use 1% hydrocortisone followed by the regular Aveeno lotion we have always used for her. Our goal is to reapply in the morning when we dress her and in the evening when she gets her pj's on. I doubt DH remembers to do it in the morning, though. It clears it up very well.

Oh, she also gets 3 baths a week.

  • We bought some over the counter hydrocortisone cream and it is working great so far.

  • Cetaphil Restoraderm works wonders for one of my guys.  I use the Aveeno Eczema Cream on my other lil guy along with the Rx from the dr on the patches that won't go away or are really bad.

  • Doctor recommended cortizone and it worked ok, but would soon wear off.  I found Aveeno Baby Eczema lotion at Target and it has worked wonders!  We use it everyday and his skin is the softest its ever been.  HIGHLY recommend!

  • I highly recommend California Baby Calendula Cream.  It is expensive, yes, but works wonder for DS.  Target has the best price that I know of.

Aveeno Eczema Therapy is my other go-to for flare ups.

Edit: we have tried to avoid the hydrocortisone creams. I read that they thin the skin over time if used too much.

  • Vanicream and Cetaphil are good, have you tried those?  My LO sleeps in Halo ComfortLuxe jammies, which is made of special fabric that helps reduce itching and irritation caused by eczema.  The fabric wicks away moisture and helps regulate body temp.  And it's even approved by the National Eczema Association.  We love it!
