Pregnant and New to the Area

I am 11 weeks pregnant and new to the area.  We moved here in January and have had a bit of a rough spring, but things are improving and I would really like to start meeting people.  I live in the Herndon area and am hoping to find some other first time moms or mom to be's to hang out with.  Any suggestions on how to meet others in the area?

First, congrats! Second, I've been searching around the community for awhile for play-date groups and such like that long before I found out I was pregnant in the hopes of meeting others when I did finally get pregnant. Our community magazine has lists for groups and such but I hear you can meet great people in birthing classes! I would just search around online and see what you can find.

Congratulations!!  I know a lot of ladies have had success with mamistad, meetup and community listservs in finding moms groups.  After your baby is born, the breastfeeding/newborn support groups at the hospitals is another great way to meet local moms.

Check out meetup.com and Mamistad. I'm in Ashburn (but grew up in Herndon) but I'm not a SAHM, just home on maternity leave right now. Check out hospital groups as well for new and expecting moms.

Congratulations! I'm in the same boat you are - 36 weeks pregnant and just moved to the area - i've been searching on meetup.com for groups and just joined one - haven't been to any of their meetings yet but i'm planning to go to the next one that opens up. I've also been told to follow up on the groups through the hospital and i plan to attend some meetings with La Leche League and see if they're my style or not.
