I'm getting such mixed reviews on them. One friend told me it was such a lifesaver when she had her second, but I keep reading how they are too hot. Anyone here have input? It's going to be very hot here in August and probably most of Sept. I love the idea of wearing the baby, and I have an ergo, but wanted something to use when she's smaller, too.

I hated mine.
I tried to love it like most everyone else...I tried the different holds but like pp said I never felt that she was safe enough or comfortable enough in there...I always had to hold her with one hand anyway so what's the point?
I have the beco gemini and LOVE that!!! I think it's similar to the ergo, though.
this was me too.. and the tying it is such a PITA to me.. I am such a fan of my hotsling for the newborn phase.. (they don't actually make hotslings anymore, but there are other brands or I found mine on Ebay). Its super duper simple to put on, no tying or clipping anything.. and Natalie loves to snuggle in it.. I always felt like Eve was going to go flopping out of the Moby when she was a NB, and then once she got bigger, i felt like it stretched with her weight too much and she was hanging down to my knees practically..
m/c 1/2/08 and 3/12/08
Eve Amelia- Born 2/24/09. 6lb 9.9oz
Natalie Ruth - Born 6/13/11 7lb 6.6oz
That is really sweet! I actually am allergic to cats so it wouldn't work out but thanks for offering.
Is a hotsling basically the same as a seven sling? https://www.sevenslings.com/index.php/cart
I have two of those (both were gifts) so maybe I should just try that and then move on to my ergo and forget about trying a moby. Hmm....
yes..looks basically the same...

I loved mine, but I realize they're not for everyone. I always tied it a bit tighter than I thought it needed to be, and then it stretched a bit and fit perfectly once DS was in it. He pretty much lived in the moby from 3-8 mos (got a bit too heavy for it around 8 mos so we switched to the ergo at that point). I loved that I could nurse "hands-free" with it on, and take him in and out of it without having to undo the whole thing.
I agree that august might be too warm for one. I wore mine mostly in winter and generally just wore it over a nursing tank with a light sweater over it.
I loved mine, but I didn't go outside much when DD was born (which was in June 2009) because I was too overwhelmed : ) I agree though that it is very hot. Looking back, I 100% wish I had a ring sling. I have one now and use it with DD, but a ring sling would have been a TOTAL lifesafer. If I had my choice, I would do a rings ling instead. Try www.sleepingbabyproductions.com She is a well priced, quick manufacturing mama with many, many options for ring slings. I just bought 2 slings (both as baby shower gifts); one was a french twill for $32 and the other a linen/cotton mix for $38. Both of those would be much cooler for you to use, plus the added benefit that they aren't as combersome to get on. They act as a great carrier for nursing in too, and you can use the "tail" as a nursing cover.
PM if you have more questions, and if its in your budget to get both I would highly recommend it, but if you only want one for the newborn phase I would go with a ringsling.

Jumping in again... a hotslings or seven sling wouldn't be a great option for a newborn in my opinion. I wouldn't feel comfortable using a sling that can't be adjusted until baby has good enough head control to be worn in a hip carry. A ring sling is SO much easier to use, more versitile, and safer in my opinion than an un-adjustable sling. Because it doesn't tighten around your baby, you won't be able to actually be hands free at all.
Here's a great blog (by a bumpie) talking about different slings, and you can search the website for other carrier types as well.
