  • I think Lu-see-uh is correct but I voted for Loo-shah, like the island country.  That's how most things are done around here.  For example I like Julia, but only if it's Jul-ee-uh, not Jul-ya, which is how it's said around here.  Makes me sad.  :(

  • Loo - chee- a is the Latin/Italian pronunciation and that's what I would think (being Italian). Personally, I'm a big fan of just going with Lucy.

  • I believe all of them are correct in different cultures. I personally love it pronounced Loo-see-uh, but have crossed it off my list because it would get pronounced wrong so often. With the latino population growing in America, I would guess that Loo-shar or loo-chee-a are the more common pronunciations.
  • The first time I saw it I thought "loo-sha".  Sine then, I have heard the other two pronunciations so  I would ask how the individual pronounced it and try to remember for the next time I had to call their name!

  • All three are correct.  I know 2 people named Loo-sha, though seeing the name, I generally say Loo-See-a.  If I know the person is Italian, I'd say Loo-CHEE-a.

Hmm, there's no accent mark on Julia in Spanish, so it is "ya" at the end, not ee-uh. I thought it was the same in English.

Lucia, however, does have an accent mark over the "i" in Spanish, making it see-uh at the end. I would only pronounce it with a ch sound if I thought the bearer of the name was Italian or of Italian heritage.

  • Lucinda is a nice alternative to Lucia if you are considering any variants... :)
